Restaurant/Caterer & Space recommendations requested!

my fiance and i recently got engaged (couple of weeks ago, new member here!) and we're already in a little bit of a dilemma. he's originally from the Philippines, i'm originally from Singapore, and we both now live in the SF Bay Area. we've decided to have our main wedding ceremony (i.e. church) and reception dinner in the Philippines next September, followed by a dinner reception in Singapore the week after.

we are also intending to have a reception here before heading to the Phils, for our friends and family that will not be able to join us for our DW. now, this international affair sounds like a lot of fun (and headaches *3) but it also means i'm going to have to be a little savvy with our budget.

where i need your help -- is it reasonable to budget 10K for a reception with ~150 people around the bay area? we don't need something super duper fancy shmancy, because we'll have that to come with our wedding. any recommendations? thanks!!

Is the set budget just for the reception ONLY or does this include everything from food, drinks, favors, bridal wear & accesories, and etc? If it's only the food and drinks, I know a friend that had a reception with about 150 around the set budget you wanted to spend. They had it over at Sausalito - Spinnaker's.

since we're not marrying here in the US, the reception is pretty much going to be a big dinner party, so the budget is primarily for food/drinks. thanks for the suggestion - we'll take a look!

darn, I don't have anything specific and I'm in Soon2bwilcox's boat - Welcome!

I'm pretty sure you can find something decent at a low key hotel, or even rent out a banquet hall and hire separate caterers. Does your FI knew of anyone that had a cotillion or debut here? Maybe you can check those places out? (I hope you don't take offense. I just thought of that idea since my bf is Filipino and he had to research places for his lil sister's debut.) What kind of place did you envision?

Hi and welcome! For $10K for just the food/drinks for 150 people, you are looking at about $66/person max including the rental fees. I did a search for you on the northern california reception sites and found a few places that are around budget (some are a little bit more).

This is how I did the search:
1) Click on "vendor reviews" on the taskbar
2) Click on "reception sites"
3) Click on "advanced search" on the upper right
4) Searched by price range (yours is 1$ to 3$) and capacity (101-150)

Results for $, $$, $$$

Thanks girls, these are all great suggestions! I am emailing some of these venues to see what we can do.

Kristen - we would like an intimate reception, but with a big Filipino family on my side and lots of close friends, that brings us to 150 ppl. We're talking to one of our friends from college who now owns a restaurant in SF to see if we can work something out. We want a simple restaurant, good food and the ability provide some alcohol (maybe a couple of bottles per table? or an hour open bar or something?) for our guests.

Oh that'd be great if you can work out something with your friend. To try to cut costs, maybe you can provide the alcohol yourself and purchase it at Costco for cheap!
