Rice Cooker ????

We got a Cuisinart Rice Cooker as a wedding gift, and it's the BEST thing ever!  My question is this:

Is there any way to stop it from boiling over?  I make small (2-person) batches of rice, and add the oil which is supposed to keep it from boiling over, but most of the time it still spills out the sides and makes a huge starchy mess.  I've read the manual and it says that oil should keep that from happening.

Is it just getting too hot (defective) or is that normal?

TIA!

i've used rice cookers my whole life, and the only time i ever had a problem with it boiling over was when i tried to make coconut rice and put waaaay too much liquid into a small rice cooker. so strange that it would do that when you're only making 2 servings!

odd. I've never heard of using oil to stop it from bubbling over. I've never had to do that either. I just read the reviews on your rice cooker and a lot of people say that they have problems with it boiling over. Some suggest using butter but I did see a review where it is suggested that you use a little less water.

what's the max cups that your cooker can make? So weird! I've used rice cookers all my life and never ever have I had the problem of it boiling over.  Is it possible to exchange for a different rice cooker?

hmmm, thanks meocat - that's good to know.  I didn't even think to look at reviews!  Might have to simply exchange it for a different brand (I thought Cuisinarts were the best?  What?) since I guess it shouldn't do it.

We're talking BIG mess.  It's pretty consistent about it too, I really think it just boils the water too hot?  Who knows. I think it can make 6 cups of rice?   It's a pretty standard size.

Thanks girls!

No way! Cuisinart is not the best!  At least not for rice cookers.  I do love my food processor that I have by them. hehe.

For rice cookers, and I may be biased, go to an asian store and buy one OR, if you can, you'll love this one that we received as a gift:

http://www.amazon.com/Sanyo-ECJ-S35K-Micro-Computerized-Bread-Baking-Function/dp/B000W9WYBW/ref=pd_sim_hg_10

I had a different one on our registry, but it was out of stock so our friend ended up buying us this one!  omg, it bakes bread too! lol.  So far, I've only made rice, but I lOooove it!  Before that, I had a standard rice cooker that I used for over 10 yrs (that I purchased at an asian store) and it worked great too!

Something like this (it wasn't this brand) if you don't want to spend too much:

http://www.amazon.com/Aroma-ARC-737G-Pot-Style-Cooker-Steamer/dp/B001A2KZ6G/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1251774759&sr=8-14

p.s. I look up reviews for EVERYTHING these days! haha. what would I do without you, Internet??

Oh my. . .

I just did what I should have done ages ago. . .and looked at the reviews.  (I do for everything else, but not this because we were 'register gun happy' when we chose it).

Everything I read says that the model I have is poorly designed and everybody has a problem with it boiling over.

Ok ladies. . .thank you for your help.  Oy.  Gonna go exchange it now. . .

:(

MEOCAT:  That bread machine rice cooker looks AWESOME. . . def. gonna check that one out. Thanks for your insight :)

It's ok! sometimes, when I was registering, I kept thinking "dangit, I wish I could read the reviews first before do this!!" lol. if you end up getting that rice cooker, let me know! Our friend bought it locally somewhere, but I'm not sure where.  They include a recipe book and apparently, you can make lemon breaded chicken (meaning you can pan fry and deep fry LOL) out of this thing too. I have yet to try out these recipes.
