RSVP cards

Hi ladies... question... I am ordering my invitations, and am wondering - do I really need to send RSVP cards? Should I maybe only send them to out of town guests? We already know who is mostly coming anyhow. And what is the etiquette for sending RSVP cards? Do I have to include an envelope with it for them to return it to me, or is it really that rude to expect them to find their own envelope to mail it back in?

Thanks!!

the rason most people have a rsvp is so they can plan for catering and the like. You could do a simple postcard from vistaprint or probably make your own on a computer. heres a few articles I found

They are a pain, but it's easier to have an RSVP so you can keep track of exactly who is coming - like if you invite the Smith's - are they bringing just the two of them or does that mean the entire family? Maybe you are counting on all 4 Smiths but they know one daughter can't make it, or something like that. It (hopefully) keeps people accountable, so they know what number they wrote on the RSVP card and won't show up with more or less than that. If your venue charges you per plate, that is usually actual count not what you tell them is coming so you really want that to be planned for as that is usually one of the more expensive parts of the day.

Make sense?

You can also use it to register a guest's choice of meal if you have one.

Trust me, many of the people who say they are coming won't and vice-versa, even if  you know them well. I was very surprised to hear  that but it proved true at my wedding too and we ended up with way more chairs than we needed (that we paid to rent) and the final reception bill was more than we had planned on...how that worked I'll never know!

So prepared for a bit of an RSVP headache (do a board search for some vents! LOL) but overall it's worth it, and exciting when they start to come in!

Thanks ladies, I appreciate it! We are not planning on doing a meal, but will still have cake and candy/desserts, plus it will be helpful to know how many to expect and and know how to map out the reception venue accordingly :)
