San Francisco Restaurants/Bars Help...

Hey Girls,

On the day we touchdown in San Fran it'll be FI's birthday. I really want to take him somewhere quite chic and snazzy for dinner. Can anyone recommend anything?

Thanks

Go to the Top of the Mark for at least a drink, maybe even dinner too!! :)  It is at the Top of the Mark Hopkins hotel downtown and overlooks the city... soooooo gorgeous!! :)

What's your budget?  Because if you're looking for something super swanky, Gary Danko is famous.

I'm actually not fancy-restaurant-savvy, but I know the rest of the Bay gals would definitely know:

you can take him to tyler florence's restaurant, wayfare tavern.  he's there most of the time too so you can catch glimpes of him!

if you want a fun bar to go to, check out rickhouse

don't forget to get some famous sf ice cream at either birite or humphry slocombe

DH & I went to a speak easy in SF. It was pretty neat! It's called Bourbon & Branch. You have to make a rservation on their website & then they email you a secret password to use when you go there. It's a fun place to grab a drink.

My favorite so far is Foreign Cinema.  If you're just visiting, Gary Danko is a good choice.  I haven't been there, but it's so beloved without having insane prices it's on my bucket list.

Neighborhood gems (smaller spaces) I have tried or have heard good things about:

Commonwealth

Frances

Range

SPQR

Big, flashy, landmark-type places I want to try:

Acquerello

Bourbon Steak

Dosa

Farallon

Jardiniere

Michael Mina

One Market

SF has so much good food at every price point that it's hard to be disappointed with just a little careful research.  Yelp is pretty reliable as is the food section of sfgate.com.
