Sand ceremony song

Hello, I have a 9 year old son from a previous relationship and was considering doing a sand ceremony at the wedding to unite my fiance with my son as a new family. Who has done or is planning on doing this? what are you going to say. How do you incorporate the sand ceremony to involve a child? Also I would like to have a song playing that is meaningful. Pretty much a song that says you three are now a family. Any suggestions???

We will be including my two children from previous relationships into our unity candle lighting. I will have my father and step mother light a candle as well so that my children will be able to use doing the lighting of the candle. This way we are including our entire family in the uniting of us.

That is such a sweet idea to include your son.  I would use three different colors so that he could have his own.  As for the song, we are using "Circle of Life" by Elton John, Lion King version.  I adore it, I think that it is perfect for any unity ceremony.

I love this <3 What a great idea to include him. I agree with @DreamingOfYou suggestion. Do three different colors, one for the each of you so that you know whos what color and it sticks out.

Also, love the idea of the song "Circle of Life" for that! Great song!

Great ideas dreamingofyou!! My friend is also doing this, and she said her new husband has put together a couple of "vows" to say to her two children from previous marriage. It sounds super sweet.

Hmmm, I'll have to think a little about the song, but as for the wording to incorporate your son, here's one option:

(Bride) and (Groom), today you are making a life-long commitment to share the rest of your lives with each other and honor your children as well. Your family relationship is symbolized through the pouring of these individual containers of sand; one representing you (Bride), and all that you were, all that you are, and all that you will ever be, one representing you (Groom), and all that you were, all that you are, and all that you will ever be.

There is a child who will share in this marriage - (Child’s Name). (Child’s Name) will also pour an individual container of sand. The gathering of this new family will have a deep influence upon them. We realize that in order for the home to be a happy one, it is essential that there be love and understanding between the children and the adults being married. As you each hold your sand, the separate containers of sand represent your lives to this moment; individual and unique.

As you now combine your sand together, your lives also join together as one family.

You may now blend the sand together symbolizing the uniting of (Child’s Name), (Bride) and (Groom) into one. Just as these grains of sand can never be separated and poured again into the individual containers, so will your marriage and your family be.
