Seating Chart

I am working on our seating chart. I am keeping people with others they know at the same table. I am finding that since our tables are rectangle and on each side of the room as shown in the picture (this is our venue) we are ending up with his family on one side and mine on the other. I really wanted to avoid that.

Any ideas? Did anyone else's seating end up this way?

What we did was ended up alternating family... so, say on your side, you know uncle bob and aunt jane are teachers. well, there are some teachers on his side too, so we placed them near one another. Looked at a lot of things, like interests in hunting, the area the people are originally from, professions, etc. We had tables, but this method helped people mingle. You can also try to keep people in the same kind of age range. :) I hope that helps! :)

It's hard when it's split up like that! Honestly, we grouped my fam with my fam, and his with his (he doesn't have a lot of fam anyways), and they were able to mingle with each other if they wanted. It wasn't a big deal. People enjoyed talking to people they already knew anyways. That's usually wat seems to happen.

Is there any way you could have them placed towards the center?  I did a search and found a few different ways of having rectangular tables set up for a reception.  :-)
