Self makeup trial opinions

Ok, so I have my engagement pictures next Sunday, and I haven't heard back from any of the people I tried to get into contact with for makeup trials.  I use MAC eyeshadows but mineral foundations, and I wasn't sure how that would photograph.  So I did my own trial.  Anyway, everytime I have ever gone to the MAC girls/boys to get my makeup done, I feel I could have done a better job myself.  So here I tried, and put it on not too heavy but still okay for daytime.  What do you think?  Will this be okay for E-pics, should I go heavier/darker.  Oh, I will add some fake eyelashes, mine don't curl too well.  Be honest please...I can take it ;o)

Ok so I have photo 61203-1

I think it looks great.   Your pics should come out just fine.

My recommendation is to use make-up that is a little more matte for photos.  Anything with shimmer or sparkle will make you look shiny in the pics.  Have you tried MAC Full Coverage Foundation?  It's heavier than what one would wear everyday, but what make-up artists use for stage and photoshoots since it holds up under the lights.  I used it for my wedding day (I DIY'd my make-up).

My recommendation is to photo 61209-1

Anyway, the only shimmer I used was in the lip gloss...just to give my lips a little "pop".  I would suggest going with what you did, but making it all matte.  Also, you might consider putting your blush more on the apples of you cheeks.  To me, it looks like it's a little low and sort of brings your face down.  I would also suggest some contour/highlight for your cheeks, nose, and forehead.

I took the pictures and forgot to put on powder so that will help with the face shine.  I do have studio fix and the other foundation from MAC but it instantly breaks me out and leaves me looking cakey and dry even with their face primer.  I agree with the highlights, and low blush...I will have to play around some more.  Or get some of these people to call me back.

I agree Lori about matte finish and the blush.  However, I think your eyes look great.  Not too heavy but defined.  Remember that you always need a little more makeup for picture than you would normally wear.

I agree with you that I'm often not happy when I get my makeup done by make.  It never looks like me and just screams "this was done by a mac person".  You can try any of the other make up counters at the mall.  They all do make overs and I feel like they all do a better, or as good of a job as MAC.  personally I prefer Laura Mercier.  They have professionally trained make up artists, (as opposed to Mac's self taugh sales girls), and they always do a great job.

For all special occasions, i usually will go to macys or nordstroms to a counter there and get my make up done, usually you have to buy 3 products or spend a certain amount of money... if u go in during the week and talk to someone, they will do like half of your face for free to see if you like it ( they should write all the make up they used down on a card), then you can see if they have an openings for your e-pic day. Just a suggestion, i like it bc i get great make up done, and then i get to spend some money on new make up! I have had my make up done by MAC, bobbi brown, benefit, and smash box...  i loved them all... GL!

I think it is nice! I like it. Maybe the lips need a bit more blending, but I think it is nice :)

i like your eye makeup =) and the lips are perfect for daytime!

have you tried taking non-close ups just to see how your makeup photographs?  i know what you mean about trying to balance the too much versus not enough ;)

i remember a thread from a month ago i think - that using makeup that has sunscreen in it - will make your face look a different "color" in pics - something about the ingredients in makeup that has built-in sunscreen...  if you're using somethingl ike that - maybe switch to a non-sunscreen version for the pics??  just a thought!

maybe blending your blush a little more also??

if none of the people you called earlier calls you back - try jessica amezquita 510/894-5275.  she's a prof mua. her portfolio is on www.modelmayhem.com - artist #32608

i met her at stoneridge mall last week - i was shoe shopping in macy's and just trolled the makeup counters asking if people did weddings on the side - she was super nice and gave me her card right away =) she works for bobbi brown or benefit (i forget)

GL!

Lori good tip, I'm going to go check that stuff out since I wanted to DIY my makeup to prevent clownish horror stories!

Oh, I was referring to studio tech, well and studio fix.  We went out tonight, so I took my time putting my makeup on, used a different blush brush, and used my mac foundation brush to put on the studio tech.  It was a bit cakey but I finished it off with mineral powder and it gave it a smoother look.

I keep going back and forth on whether or not to do my own makeup for our epics.  What if I hate the trial, then I am out $130 and then will hate my pics.  Arg.
