SEPTEMBER book voting

I am so sorry, I think I'm running a little later than usual to open voting! Let's hear them, what would you like to read?

I know in the past we had the suggestions of
Memoirs of a Geshia
Kite Runner

And I can't think of any others, but if you mentioned one previously you would want to mention again, we are all ears!

My vote is for a light read: Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella (though it may be under one of her other one names)

Both Memoirs and Kite Runner are great reads, and both are quite an education in different cultures.  Haven't read Twenties Girl, though, but I'm open to it.

I was just browsing NPR's book club picks, and Faithful Place jumped out.  I almost bought it last year but decided not to because the plot didn't sound that fascinating.  But I kept seeing it getting mentioned and heard many great things about it, so I really want to read it.  It was also Amazon's best book in July 2010.  It took place in Dublin, revovling around the protagonist's (a detective) childhood girlfriend's death.  The death brought the detective back to his hometown and his family since he left 22 years ago.

I've read Kite Runner, a great great book.  It's easily the best book I read in the past 3 years.  I watched Memoirs of a Geshia - it could be a good book, but it was a lousy movie haha.  Twenties Girl sounds like a fun and light read.

I loved Memoirs, but I've already read it. Kite Runner is on my to-read list, so thats okay with me.

I'm also looking at reading The Secret Daughter sometime soon.

Secret Daughter, a first novel by Shilpi Somaya Gowda, explores powerfully and poignantly the emotional terrain of motherhood, loss, identity, and love through the experiences of two families—one Indian, one American—and the child that binds them together. A masterful work set partially in the Mumbai slums so vividly portrayed in the hit film Slumdog Millionaire, Secret Daughter recalls the acclaimed novels of Kim Edwards and Thrity Umrigar, yet sparkles with the freshness of a truly exciting new literary voice.

Kavita, a poor village woman, has just given birth to an infant daughter she names Usha. Terrified that her husband will murder the daughter because she's a girl, she journeys to Mumbai to place Usha in an orphanage. Meanwhile, Somer and Krishnan, a California couple struggling with infertility, decide to adopt an Indian orphan and end up with Usha. The book follows the twists and turns in these characters' lives as Kavita and her family experience changes of location and fortune and Somer and Krishnan raise Usha (whom they call Asha) who eventually seeks her roots in India.

wow, such great ideas! I have been waiting until we had a bit more input to make a final choice, though. If anyone has friends who haven't yet come and put their two cents in, ask them to come on over! :D

ACK!!! I am so sorry ladies! I have been distracted (FI is coming TOMORROW! I haven't seen him since June. And needed to make my apartment look inhabitable.) I think Secret Daughter is the winner! Is it okay if it is the book for this and next month? :)
