Guest entertaiment while taking pictures???

what kind of entertaiment do you offer your guests while you sneak off with your photographer for a little while?

I will say I worried so much about our guests before the wedding. The ceremony had to be early so we could take pictures before the sun went down (Day Light Savings was the weekend before, so we lost an hour of sun!). Mass was at 1 and lasted about an hour, cocktail hour started at 5. I stopped worrying and realized how many weddings I had been to with time gaps in between. I always figured something to do, your guests will do the same! Mine did, and if anyone complained they certainly didn't tell me about it.

We left the guests to their own devices. Our reception was about 40 minutes from the church so that took up some time. It was also in the hotel most guests were staying at, so many checked in and settled in their rooms, while friends or family joined them. We had an open bar and hors d'oeuvres for an hour which helped. I heard a few guests went to the hotel bar, and some walked around the city since it was a gorgeous day in a beach town.

Most weddings I have been to thats when there is a cocktails and appteizers. A few weddings have had things like "ice breakers" like trivia about the bride and groom

where did they meet

how long have they been together   etc...  It was  nice because it got people talking to each other.

I agree that's the time for cocktails and appteizers.

I agree cocktails and appetizers. As for us we wont really have any lag time. We are taking photos before the ceremony. We are doing a short horse drawn carriage ride after the ceremony (mock exit) as our guests find their way to the reception area and find their tables. Our ceremony is outside and the reception inside at the same venue.

We provided a cocktail hour while we took pictures.  We had jazz music playing as the guests could mingle with each other and the numerous waitors passed hor doevres.

we are debating because we want to use the two hour lag time to take pictures so that we can use the cocktail hour to mingle with the guests and i have more time to dance when its time ! because everyone will want pictures with you and all that so i think it would be better.im just nervous if we are running late.

We are taking pictures prior to the ceremony and then having a standard cocktail hour after the ceremony for family/group photos. =)

We made madlibs for them to do while the cocktail hour. So they will have drinks, mini sandwiches, and the madlibs to do. They also can walk around our venue and sign the guestbook.

We also had the cocktail hour during photo time. Most brides and grooms don't get the chance to enjoy the yummy food lol
I think it's the standard way to do it.
