NOT succumbing to bad cravings!

Remember the 'trigger foods' post?  What do you do when your brain tells you that you *need* a certain food you know you shouldn't eat?

Do you break down and chow, or do you have a trick up your sleeve to pass that craving by?

I have a few tricks:

a.  I look at the calorie count.  That almost always does the trick!

b.  I drink two large glasses of water, fast.  Then I'm too full!

c.  I eat a few bites, and give the rest to my dog or the garbage disposal (my dog rarely gets people food. . .don't worry!).

d.  I try eating something healthy first, like a piece of fruit.  If that doesn't do it, I revert to plan a, b, or c.

I think it's proven that most cravings will pass in 15 minutes if you forget about it.

we try not to have any really bad snacky things in the house like potato chips or cookies.

if i have a sweet craving, i go for some cereal (but not any more than a 100 calorie portion) or fruit. sometimes i also keep bite sized dark chocolates in the fridge. just one piece will curb my chocolate craving.

if i have a salty craving, i have a few triscuits - again, not more than a 100 calorie portion.

i sometimes i do have ice cream in the house and have cravings for it at night, but before i reach for it, i do an exercise dvd. more often than not, i don't feel like having the ice cream after a good workout!

chow.. I don't get terrible cravings very often so I eat what I crave usually but try not to have too much available for me to eat.  If not I'll start snacking and go through some of everything and still have the initial craving with 4 times the amount of food and calories already packed away.

I drink water...If it just won't go away, I'll give in and usually eat a bit or two and then toss it.

They say that if you deprive your cravings that when you finally do give in you tend to eat twice as much...don't know if there's any truth to that but something about stuck with me...so if I want something bad enough (say chocolate around AF time) then I'll just eat some because I don't want to go overboard later.
