Shoe repair to cut down heels?

I have really high heels on my dream wedding shoes. They are 4 inches. The problem is I'm 5'9" and FI is 6' and I don't want to tower over him. I heard you can take your heels to a shoe repair store and get them cut down shorter. I want to cut off an inch to an inch and a half. They would also be much easier to walk in if they were shorter.

Has anyone done this?

These are my beautiful Luichiny shoes:

I got my wedding heels cut down but they were only able to cut down 1/2 inch.  It has to do with the arch in the shoe if that makes sense.  I don't think you could get them cut down that much (from what I was told by the guy that did mine).  Also all shoes can't be cut down.

@hmz819: Thanks. I guess I will just take them into the store and see what they can do. Even half an inch would help!

ditto to what hmz819 said.  The only way to find out is that you will have to take them in.

I've had some cut down an 1 1/2 before, but it was how the shoes was made.

Last year I wanted to cut down a pair, but because the shoe had a steel rod in the heel I could not.

I always do this to my heels, so it is doable, but like the other ladies it depends on the actual heel.

I heard the same thing.  They can only go about 1/2 inch?  Sux.  I had to get new shoes because my dress came in too short.  I would start looking for a different pair if you really want a significant difference in height.

Thanks, ladies! I just talked to FI and told him we would have to try on our shoes together and see if the difference is too much in height. I will have no shame buying a flat pair of shoes to wear for the wedding and pics that don't show my feet. And switch my shoes out for these beauties just for pics that do show my feet. It's a thought anyway.

It depends on the arch of the shoe as to how much they can cut off.  I tried to do this for mine, but they said it would be hard.

Kitty - I'm totally considering doing that too! (shorter heels for ceremony and higher ones for pics)

Miss_Jules: I am glad I am not the only one who thought about that. :)

Oh no no girly.  I got in my dream shoes...Badgley Mischka Randalls and tried them on next to FI...uhhh yeah Amazon woman much?! haha  I researched and it definitely depends on the arch of the shoe.  I'm sure the higher the heel, the less chance it can be taken down.  My FI is MAYBE 2"-3" taller than me.
