should I order a dress smaller then I am or what?!?!

Hi all. I am a big bride with a big goal. I would LOVE to get down to a size 14 or a size 12 by my January 30th wedding. I know this isn't going to happen though because I am a size 20!! lol So my new goal is to lose as much weight as possible. I work out 6 days a week for an hour a day and have a new diet plan. It says you lose 8 pounds a week on it so i'm hoping that means 2-3 pounds in real life. :) My problem though is that I don't know for sure if i'm going to lose weight and if I do lose how much I will lose. If I buy a dress that fits me now i'm worried that i'll lose a bunch of weight and when they go to alter it it will look completely different and they'll have to take away the detailing and if I buy a dress that's smaller what if I don't lose anything and then can't fit in it?!?! So do you guys think that I should buy a dress that is my size and then just pray that when it's altered it doesn't mess it up or should I go smaller since I really think i'm going to lose weight I just don't know how much. I'm going with a corset dress so i'll have a little give either way. I would love to get your guys' opinions and find out what you did. :)

I asked the ladies at the shop this question and they said to order the size I am now.  I'm a 16 in the wedding world and want to be a size 10, or even an 8.  They said if they have to alter it a lot, they will, no biggie.  They said there's no need order smaller, in case I don't lose the weight.  Plus, when the dress comes in my size, I'm sure it will look A LOT better than the sample I tried on.

Don't worry baby girl, you'll look good either way.

Order the dress at the size you are. It's easier to take a dress in than take it out.

Ditto on ordering it at your current size. A good tailor will be able to alter the dress so that you look stunning either way!  I ordered mine about a month ago and have already lost 12lbs. so don't worry, just make sure you have found a dress you love.

PS Great job on changing up your diet and hitting the gym 6 days a week!

Thank you guys for your advice. I will go with my current size no matter how much it pains me too. They really should make wedding dress size smaller then our regular sizes instead of larger. Give us princesses an extra ego boost wedding people!! lol I was just worried because whatever dress I go with will have a lot of detail and I don't want to lose the important parts of it. Plus I am just now discovering that alterations are waaaaaaaaaaay more expensive then I thought they were going to be so that's got me freakin a little bit. I will order the dress in my size though and trust in the wedding dress stores' alteration ladies to do a good job. Thank you guys again for your awesome advice. I appreciate it. :)

Also good luck on the weight loss ladies. Just keep with it and we'll be some skinny b*tches in no time!! lol

thank you kacilillian. It's hard and I haven't seen any results yet so that's making it even harder. I have been working out for 4 months now but haven't been eating as healthy as I should have been so that has held me back. Now i'm on the right track though and am excercising AND dieting so hopefully the pounds just melt away. I love my fiance so much. I have gained 100 pounds since we started dating 7 1/2 years ago and he doesn't even care. He's not really into big girls so it is so awesome that he is ok with me as I am and loves me anyway and doesn't care that I have gained the weight of a hellfire missile!! lol Love is a powerful and wonderful thing isn't it. (I couldn't get cornier if I tried could I lmfao) I want to get as close to the size I was when we first met though (which was a size 9 in juniors) but it is hard!! I've been trying off and on for about 4 years now and I just keep gaining. Hopefully this time I shed these pounds and look damn good for him on our wedding day!!

i had my dress back today and i was very suprised at how much leeway there is when it comes to size. i too have gone for a corset style but i ordered it smaller. not too much smaller though, its just the right size so i can get it on to see how it looks but doesnt quite fit. it will be a great incentive for me to watch it fit better every time i try it on but if i dont lose very much then its no biggy coz i know it will look ok anyway and im sure it will be the same for you.

so in answer to your question i would either go for the size you are now or go no more than about 2 sizes smaller. the last thing we brides need is more stress at the mo.
