Show us those kitchens!
Alatiel your kitchen is gorgeous!
This is ours now. . .HATE the placement of the dishwasher, obnoxious. When you open it it blocks all the cabinets and drawers where everything goes, so you have to unload the dishes onto the counter and then put them away.
And this is the kitchen in the house we want to buy that I would KILL to get my remodeling hands on. . .
god now, i hate my kitchen lol
This is the realtor photo from when the house was on the market before we bought it:
And this is what it looks like with the new appliances (I can't seem to get a wide angle shot like the one above with my camera):
Welcome to city living, ladies!!!
Here is the entry in to the kitchen, the apartment complex was built sometime in the 1940's and the original design had a door for kitchen entrance. I don't know when they took of the doors, but the fixtures are still in the molding.
When you step in to the kitchen (I really mean step in) and look to the right, you'll find the fridge and a small pantry. Which also at one point had a door??
Now if you look to the left... you'll find the stove and our "butchers block" which is the only "prep" area we really have as you can see the counters are kinda full! Oh and the roasting pan isn't always there, I am preparing to make roast beef and yorshire pudding tonight :o)
Above the "butchers block" is our spice rack and a picture I still need to by a frame for (or thats what I tell FI anyways). I wanted FI to stand in the kitchen so you can see how narrow it is... but nope! Oh and the stove is about 22 inch wide (inside 19 inches)!
It's waaaay too small for my liking but that's condo living for you...can't wait to get a place with more storage and cooking space!
Awww JesandShan I loved your description and photos!
I think at some point EVERYBODY should have a kitchen like that . . . I know I have. My personal favorite was the galley kitchen in a college apartment: middle of the house (no windows anywhere in site), about 3 feet wide (you couldn't open the fridge all the way because it would hit the counter), and all that in a lovely shade of harvest gold. . . .
Actually too, Shan, your kitchen reminds me of the one in the movie 'Julie and Julia'! I like it :)
J&S, I had one like that too, though not NEARLY as charming as yours. Like MB's, it was a galley (much narrower than yours), with no window, DARK 70's "wood look" cabinetry, and almond-colored appliances, including a 24" range... Ugh. Brings back (not so great) memories...
Mountain: I hate our dishwasher too. I don't even technically use it. I hand wash and use it as my drying rack (saved me counter space). Your kitchen's so bright!
Gator: I love your backsplash. I want one, but can't decide on tile.
Jess: That reminds me of my apartment, I totally miss it. It was just me and I didn't have to share, so it was so perfect.
Beatie: It may be small but it is gorgeous. I love your appliances.
Haha... Everyone likes our backsplash - except me! We inherited it with the house, but I want glass tile. Ahhh, someday....
It's my favorite room in the house! Love all the cabinet space and it makes up for the lack of space in the pantry. :)
MB & Gator... the apartment before this, was a galley kitchen... dark cabinets & a harvestgold stove (but at least it was a decent size)! I think its because we don't have a decent kitchen we eat out most nights!
OH... and my favorite thing in my kitchen is the OH SO CHARMING rusted icepick, that belongs to my FI. I can't throw it away, b/c he'll know! We have fought over this. His parents go.. "oh but, Shannon its an antique!"
I'm sorry, but this antique is symonous with old crap... this has no value, nor is it pleasurable to look at. I don't care what family member it came from... ugly and useless stuff deserves a home in the trash :) Seriously... when is FI going to go out and pick up a block of ice? This isn't TGI Fridays, crap doesn't equal great decor. (I always hate resturants that have crap just bolted to their walls)
btw... I am envious of everyones kitchen!
LOL! MB, I was skimming through these and saw your kitchen and was like... "WHOA! I Swear I've been in that kitchen before!" Then I saw it was yours LOL! I'm a dork. There is no way I'm posting my kitchen on here, it's totally barf :P hah!
From when we first moved in....oh how I wish it was this clean again.
Awww...wish I could share pictures of our kitchen b/c I love it! It's small..but it works! Here's a picture I found from another unit I found...I have the same granite counter tops and appliances..just different furniture and stuff! LOL
your guys kitchens are so cute! we have a crappy ugly TEENY WEENIE kitchen since we're renting right now. :(
antique is symonous with old crap <----LMAO Shan. . .
Our kitchen is still a work in progress, having moved in a little over a year ago. I'm intending to put in a back splash (glass maybe?) and granite countertops. We're still trying to decide if we need a Island in the middle. Our kitchen is really big and I feel like we have a lot of wasted space. I also want to get rid of the yellow walls....they didn't turn out to be the color we intended.
These are old pics....looks a little different now....
Breakfast counter area:
oh mizbiz..i def think you should do an island...then take out that breakfast bar and add cabinets below....so you'd have even more counter space/storage/buffet area!
Hmm everyone's kitchen is so neat and clean! Are they always like that? LOL! Mine is always messy. Let me tidy up before I take some pics heehee.
@Mizbiz, I agree with jackie. Your large kitchen space calls for an island!
