Silly dress question I'm sure

Hi ladies,

Please don't laugh but can they make a wedding dress bigger or only smaller?

Although I haven't tried it on, I saw a dress that I fell in love with at a bridal show but when I called the store to see if they had it in stock they only had a size 8.  I know that is probably going to be a little too small for me.  I really want to try it on but I'm afraid if I fall in love with it they won't be able to get it in my size.

Thanks

Hello dear!!!

No question is ever dumb! The dress you like, do you know who made the dress and is it possible to get it from another store on online in your correct size? Did you ask them if you liked the dress, could you get the dress in your size? Some of the local boutiques I checked out when I was dress hunting had smaller sizes in the store, but larger sizes were available, they had to be ordered from the factory.

Now to answer your question. You would have to really know a fierce tailor. I know one, he lives in Michigan and he told me he didn't want to ever see me again! Lol. Depending on how much larger you need it, it may alter the look of the dress.

Hey Tressy,

I haven't even stepped foot in the store yet since I didn't want to get my hopes up in case they didn't have it.  I can call them and find out if they can order it in another size.

So when you see those shows where the dress is too small for them they just order it in a bigger size and then make the alterations?  Sorry I know that may sound really stupid but I am clueless when it comes to this.

I remember the story about your tailor...haaaa haaa!

Thanks for the advice.

No it doesn't sound stupid at all! Yes, call the store and ask if the dress is available in your size and also, see if they will tell you the designer if it is not. One store gave me hell and refused to tell me the designer over the phone. Lol. If they have the dress in your size at their factory or at a sister store, they will just have the dress shipped to the store and it won't need alterations. Smaller boutiques always carry really small sized dresses on site, but larger sizes are available and may cost a little extra.

Thanks Tressy! I know the designer is Karelina Sposa and here is a picture of the dress. The picture does it absolutely no justice whatsoever.  I wouldn't have even double clicked on the dress if I was looking at it online.  When the representative from the store gave me the information and I found it online I had to look real close at it to make sure it was the same dress.  I would have never even looked twice at this dress.  It was stunning in person.

I would definitely not do the bolero!

From what I've heard it's pretty expensive and tough to make a dress bigger, so hopefully you can search around and find the dress you want at the size you want!!

This dress is gorgeous and no, it does not need the bolero at all! Did you check to see if it is available online or at any other store locally?

Drooling over that dress!! It's gorgeous, and as long as you know the designer and the style of the dress, you should be able to find it in your size somewhere. A local store that carries that line should be able to order one for you, or you could go to the designer's site and find a store somewhere in your area that carries a sample for you to try.

I had to do this for an Alfred Angelo gown that I found online. There was only 1 place in a 5 hour radius of me who carried a sample, so my MOH and I did a road trip! Bridal salons normally keep bigger samples on hand and then just pin them so that anyone can try the dress on to see if they like the style.

We ended up making a day of it, and trying on a bunch of dresses in that particular store so it was worth the trip. HTH!!

Thanks ladies, I knew I could count on you.  I will call around other stores and see if they have my size or if at least it can be ordered in a bigger size.

Thank you so much!
