Silly question about freezing meatballs

Do you cook the meatballs before you freeze them or after?  I read a few tips through google bust all say to cook them in a sauce and then freeze them.  But I don't want to cook in the sauce right away.  Can I freeze them like burger patties or should I bake them before popping them in the freezer?
