Smoky Mountain Honeymoon...suggestions?

My FI and I are paying for our wedding ourselves. We are on a rather small budget and we were beginning to doubt whether we would be able to financially pull off a honeymoon, as well. Well, we just booked a cute little cabin in the Smoky Mountains (Gatlinburg, TN) and I am so excited! Granted, it isn't the amazing Canadian trip that we have dreamed of, but sitting in a hot tub on the back deck of a secluded little log cabin in the middle of one of the most gorgeous places in the country sounds pretty good to me, too!

Does anyone have any suggestions of restaurants? activities (we love the outdoors!)? Anything else?

DH and I had out honeymoon in Asheville, NC not too far from there.  We did horseback riding in the mountains and it was soooo beautiful.  We had a little picnic too :)  Super romantic, fun, and adventurous.

Thanks, ladies. The horseback riding sounds great. I have been searching through all of the websites and reading on tripadvisor.com but I am trying to steer clear of any tourist-trap type places. I would love to hear any personal recommendations!

If you like ribs, go to Corky's in Pigeon Forge. Yum!! We stayed in a cabin in the Smoky Mnts for our honeymoon too. I would skip the touristy things in Gatlinburg like Ripley's Believe it or Not museum and stuff like that (waste of money.) The aquarium is pretty cool though. Also, New Found Gap is worth a visit since you like the outdoors (it's my engagement spot :)) and Clingman's Dome is quite the hike, but it's worth it when you get to the top. We went wine tasting at Apple Barn Winery. Their apple-peach and apple-raspberry wine is really good. Cade's Cove is peaceful and a good place for a picnic, like Lengentry said. It's a big wildlife preserve that you can bike or drive through. The only wildlife we saw when we went was a turkey lol, but lots of people see bear. Ober Gatlinburg provides some really nice views if you ride the ski lift all the way to the top. Granted, it is a little touristy, but I liked it.

You'll have a great time. You really don't need much more than a secluded cabin, a hot tub and your husband to have a fun honeymoon. ;) hehe

Thanks, ladies! We love ribs, so we'll definitely check out Corky's! And I love seeing all the photos, Butterfly17 and Serenity57!

I think we are going to pass on most of the stuff in town. We live close to Branson, MO and I have a feeling most of the touristy places (Ripley's etc...) are similar to what we've seen in Branson.

We are going to focus on hiking, scenic drives, the national park and possibly white water rafting (Is it warm enough in May?), spending time in our beautiful cabin and eating great food.

Take a trip to the Biltmore.  Also, the last time I was there we went skiing at a mountain about 1-2 hours from there.  It is lovely!!

There is a new place in town where you can ride a ferris wheel and watch a light show at the fountain.  We went there the other night and it was great.
