SMY: Newborn going home outfit

Ladies, I'm having a hard time finding our baby girl's going home outfit. Everything I come across is either too expensive, too over the top girlie, or uncomfortable looking.

So I need some inspiration. Weather you are team blue, pink, or green; I'd love to see your LO's going home outfit and where you got it from.

TIA! :)

We got her a Ralph Lauren outfit from Nordstrom...it's a pink and white striped wrap top and footed pants...I plan to frame the top with her birth announcement, hat, and footprints in a shadow box...so I didn't want a big/long onesie.

Some people say avoid pants because of the stump...but it didn't affect her...and we only live 7 min from the hospital...she only wore it a few min!

It was a long photo 3465446-1

It was a long sleave onsie that says "Daddy's Princess" with matching pants. We put the socks and mittens on before we left but they lasted about 5 minutes. She managed to get them off in the car on the way home.

I actually packed three different outfits and let DH pick which one the day of since we was getting her dressed while I was dressing and he picked this one :)

I had a 9lb baby, and the NB size still fit...towards the end of my pregnancy she was measuring large, so i had a backup outfit (not as cute!) in her bag as well... I had/still have tons of those mittens, but they never stayed on....we used socks instead...stayed on way better, only used them when she wasn't swaddled....she still is swaddled for all naps and double swaddled (muslin blanket and sleep sack method) overnites.

I haven't really thought very much about this and I've only got 10 weeks left! lol but I'll probably put him in one of the onesies we got for him when we first found out we were team blue and pair that with some pants. I just want him to be nice and comfy on his first ride home :)

Here's Megan in hers -it was a nb size and fit a little big even though she was 8lbs 10oz at birth :) Our drive home from the hospital was also only a few minutes.

@Mar: I'm pretty obsessed with BabyGap, too!

It's funny, but a few weeks ago DH and I were obsessing over this! I had never really thought about it, but all of the outfits we had been looking at were long sleeved w/pants, etc. One day it occurred to me that I might not want to bring our LO home in such warm clothes. I am due mid-July, when temps will likely be well over 100 degrees here. So there went most of my cute ideas! :-( I started asking some other mamas of summer newborns and most of them said they did a onesie, hat and socks, then covered their LOs with a light blanket. So I think that is the route we are going.

@msdl Carter's usually has some really cute sets with the matching booties and hat. They also have cute outfits with the matching cardigan and they are pretty light weight. Newbies live to be snuggly so as long as its lightweight you should be fine with pants! I live in FL and even though I have a January baby it was 80 when we left the hospital!!!!

@Debbie -Megan was born on July 12th and it was beyond hot & humid. We were literally going from the hospital to the car then into the house so we knew we weren't going to be outside much at all. Like Jennifer said, babies love to be snuggly and secure so we felt that the snap up long sleeve and footy pants was the right choice -oh, and both the car and our house was air conditioned so we didn't want her to get a chill :)

Thanks so much, girls! That's what I thought, too...then I started reading about how babies can overheat so easily and I got really nervous. I always just assumed they liked to be bundled up! Our hospital is about 45 minutes from where we live...do you think that will matter? I'm so glad this topic came up!

Thanks ladies! This was very helpful! :) My Mom also suggested that I wait until after our shower in case someone buys something that will fit what I'm looking for.

Deb - I'm thinking bundle lil man up and if he seems to be heating up, shed a blanket or the cap or socks? That's what I've seen/known other Mama's to do. Kind of like my Grandma does. Dress in layers that you can peel off. ;)
