"Something Borrowed"

Hey Dolls

I have really been thinking about how expensive it to plan a wedding(duh as if)! Some of you may or may not know I am a wedding planner (3 Sisters Weddings & Events). I have ran across a couple of brides who were getting frustrated about there wedding gowns. Some not able to afford the one they want, having to settle, etc... So "Something Borrowed" was born. How it works is that  brides can donate there wedding gowns for other brides to wear over and over if possible! And trust me we all know how heartbreaking it is not to get the dress of your dreams!

What do you ladies think of this idea? Would you ladies donate if you could? I want to get some feed back before I broadcast this..

#1.. how did u get into wedding planning? i realllllly think i found my calling in life and i have no idea how to persue it. do i have to go to school? or just know the right people getting married at the right time? help meee :)

and #2.. thats an awesome idea!!! i would deffinatly donate my gown after i wear it, because realitically, i know my daughter wont want to wear it. i sneered at my moms dress when she showed it to me haha. i still have my prom dress that is just collecting dust at my moms house, so i would donate that too because its technically a BM dress. i know there are pleanty of orginizations and charities that recycle dresses, but they seem to all be clustered in the same area. i think having more local shops is an excellent idea!

I think this is a great idea! Especially with the economy the way it is, now more than ever women need options to be able to get the dress that they may not be able to afford otherwise. I have already donated one dress to Brides Against Breast Cancer, but I know that there are ladies who can't afford dresses even though they are so deeply discounted.

I actually know a lady here in the Portland area who owns a company called "Something Borrowed Portland". She does this same thing, except it's with things such as utensils, centerpieces, table cloths, vintage picture frames, and essentially any decor you'd need.

Kplusd- School is not required for wedding planning. You can go through a program and get a certification, but it is not required by any means. You should start off by offering free coordination and planning to people so that you are able to build a porfolio.

That is a good idea!!!  We do have a Something Borrowed group here on PW. http://www.projectwedding.com/groups/boards/something-borrowed

It's funny that you posted about this because while I am not getting rid of my dress, I have a FG dress, a RB suit and a BM dress that I have thinking about what to do with.  I'll PM you later on, as I have an appt to go speak to a consignment shop today.

kplusd nope schooling is not required! After my wedding in April 2011, i loved the experience of the planning and the details. I was like, I could do this all the time! lol. DH said you should try it. 3 Sisters Weddings & Events was born..... I then realized i couldnt do it on my own, because i work full time as well. So i solicited my 2 sisters to help me and they agreed. Hence the name 3 Sisters! I love it.. I say you should go for it! But i will let you know im sure that you already do that it is time consuming and very detail oriented. I mean we all on here are brides and know exactly what we want. its the same thing. I have yet to have aSaturday where i just lounge around.. but thats good rite..lol. best of luck to you!

Thx ridegrl1!  thx beccabride

I think it's awesome idea and there is actually a blog/blogger in SF that does something similar. Brides submit thier dresses to be donated for another Bride in need. Brides in need submit their stories and the dress owner gets to pick who gets thier dress and the Bride receiving it can take it only if she promises to pass it on after she's done.

@DansMrs well with us no story is required. You just have to be in need of a wedding gown. Afterwards it cleaned and ready for the next bride who may need it.

I love it!  It's so refreshing and inspiring to see others wanting to help people. Especially when in today's world it feels like people are in it for themselves majority of the time.
