Stupid Question Thread

We used to have one of these threads in the main forum for wedding planning, so I thought I would add one here -- just in case anyone in our group has any questions they might otherwise be afraid/hesitant/embarrassed to ask. No question is too small or "stupid" since most of us are new at all this :-)

I have a couple questions to start it off!

1) An acquaintance gave me a bag of maternity clothes (gently used) when we first announced our pregnancy. Do you return maternity clothes to the person who gave them to you? I assumed they were on loan, but for some reason now I'm not sure if I am supposed to return them.

2) What are your thoughts on crib bumpers? Everything I read says they are not recommended for safety reasons, but every time I see a photo of a real life nursery -- friends, FB, product reviews, etc. -- they all have bumpers in their cribs. What do you guys think?

Ugh, I have such a hard time putting on lotion on my legs, let along shaving them!  Thanks, I’m glad I’m not the only thinking about these things.

@DMN, I def plan on "grooming" myself down there, as well as shaving my legs, and painting my toes. I refuse to feel like a gross pregnant woman when I give birth! I will bring make-up, and other beauty products with me, but we'll see if it will actually make it on my face : )

@DMN  I actually told DH the other day, "umm it's getting harder and harder for me to ladyscape, so it may end up your job before I deliver." LOL!   My belly is so low I can't see so every once in awhile when he peeks his head in the shower I'm like, "um I need an update on this.." haha  I've lucked out that the hair on my legs isn't growing as fast as before so I dont need to shave every day so that's a plus! hah

Hi ladies! I'm new to the group and my daughter is 8.5 months old, but I'm hoping I can help with any questions you may have. I was fortunate to have ladies who were already moms in my baby group and it was great!

As for the bumpers, I use a breathable bumper for our daughter. It is still a bumper, but safer. A couple of times she stuck her hand through the crib slats and I didn't like that at all! We have never had an issue since using the breathable bumper. It really is a great item to use!

Here's my stupid question:

Do you still take your prenatal?

My doctor never told me to stop so I've just kept taking them, figured it couldn't hurt but I wasn't sure what you were supposed to do....

Oh Laurie, I'm the same way!  The cheaper the better.  I don't care about brand, how do you screw up a vitamin right?  I was irritated when I bought the gummi kind when I had morning sickness so bad I couldnt swallow the horse pill sized ones.  You only got like 3 months worth for almost twice the price and you had to take 2 at a time, I was not impressed.

Another stupid question.......

Are you totally freaked out your water will break while you're at work/in public and embarass the hell out of you?

I seriously am terrified I'm going to be at my desk at work (or like pushing a shopping cart) and my water is going to break like a flood all over.  I know it's stupid and I can't control it but seriously, I'd just die.

OMG!!! Knowing me & my luck, my water will break at the most unfortunate time in the most public of places!

To add to your question AuntTate: WHO CLEANS IT UP?

Most women (I think I've read it's like 85%) don't have their water break prior to going into labor. And if it does for the far majority of those it's like a small trickle- many women think they are leaking pee. Nothing like in the movies. With my dd my water broke at home before labor had started and it was quite a bit of fluid but still probably not enough that if I was out and about fully clothed it would have gone everywhere. So definitely don't worry about that- chances are it won't be an issue at all.

Two of my friends had their water break before labor but both were working at home.  So I figure, to avoid that dreading scenario, I’ll just work from home two weeks prior to my due date.  BUT I do get scared though.  I currently have a slight cough and sometimes I have that “oops” moment.  Then I worry that it might be the trickle from my water breaking!

All my appointments have just been DH and me, except for one he missed because he was stuck at work.  My mother will be in the delivery room with DH and I, my MIL will nto be anywhere around.  She stresses me and DH out too much.
