Table Numbers?

What do you guys think of Table Numbers? Does it seem like Table Numbers are basically a rank of importance? For example, would you feel bad if you're at table 19 out of 20? =(

People sometimes name their tables after destinations that are significant to the. Or you can try greek letters like alpha, beta, gamma, delta, epsilon... but then I guess only scientists and frat boys would know where to go.

Maybe you can counteract people feeling bad about having a low table number by making them closer to the head table. That way, people with low table numbers don't feel so bad because they're closer, and people who are really far away don't feel so bad because they have higher table numbers! Everybody's happy (and sad)!

Who the heck uses alpha, beta, gamma? Not only would that be geeky, but it'd be confusing.

And you'd still insult people - who wants to be on table beta?

Coming from someone who's not getting married any time soon, but has been to many weddings, I'd say suck it up and just use numbers. I personally have never been insulted sitting at a high table number.

The cutest way I've seen tables done is by names, and on the back it would descibe how it means something to the couple. That's what we're doing. Example: The place card says Lucy on the front, on the back it says how she is our adorable puppy.
That way guests don't have low numbers and get to learn neat facts about the couple. It gets people mingling because they go to the other tables to read the other facts.

i don't think it's about table numbers or names, it's more about whether or not a guest feels shafted being assigned to a table in the back or in the corner! =)
