Tell us all about it!

I'll start the intros = )

My name is Jessica and now that my wedding is over I have decided that I want to become a better cook. I especially am interested in baking/desserts. I am a beginner here so I'll take any advice you gals have! I hope we can share our favorite recipes and cheer each other on!

Edit to add: also, if you watch the foodnetwork (which I am becoming hopelessly addicted to!) you can share your favorite stars/shows. I love Paula Dean and Bobby Flay!

I'm not a wifey yet, but I do LOOOVE cooking, so I had to join this group!! I'm intermediate I think, FI says advanced lol. He's worked in a kitchen all of his life (until recently) and he thinks that I cook better than he does (I wont argue). LOL!

I'm really excited to see some new recipes that I can try out!! Thanks for making this group!!

hi ladies!

i've loved to cook ever since i was a kid - inspired by my dad! cooking is also something that DH and i love to do together. it's why we picked "recipe for love" as our first dance song!

i grew up cooking filipino food, but i like to branch out and experiment with other cuisines as well.

jbl - my hubs is half filipino/half puerto rican and grew up eating mostly puerto rican food, so he makes really good rice and beans too! but his favorite thing to make is pernil (roast pork). sooooo yummy!

i watch FN constantly. not sure what my favorite show is tho... probably giada. i also love the show "the best thing i ever ate". not only do i love eating and cooking, but i love just talking about food!

Ooh, I'm a soon-to-be wifey that loves to cook! I used to bake a lot when I was younger, but now I tend to enjoy cooking more. I also try for the most part to keep to healthy cooking- as I am determined to lose some weight before the wedding!!!

I'm big on making casseroles that I can freeze and easily take down for a quick, yummy dinner later on.

Last year I got my first crock-pot and ADORE it! So much fun in the winter to come in from the cold and smell something yummy slowly simmering away.

I use my grill as much as possible too. I try to stay away from eating too many meats- so I love to experiment with different foods I can grill. Lately it's been grilled eggplant burgers with mozzarellalla and tomatoes slices and also grilled portabella mushroom burgers with baby spinach and goat cheese. So yum!

I've also recently gotten into gardening (just pots on my deck). I make the BEST basil pesto last week! I think it's extra fun when you're able to make something that you have grown yourself. The tomatoes, eggplant, squash and cucumbers are ripening up just about now too!

So yeah- I'm really looking forward to sharing recipes and tips and learn new stuff from you girls! :)

Hi, I'm Emily....not a wifey yet!

I absolutely love everything food and kitchen related! we are such food and wine lovers!!! Our favourite pastime is going out to new restaurants and trying new recipies!!

I also love Gordon Ramsey and even registered for his pot set!

For you Canadians - the free Food and Drink guide you get from the LCBO is one of my favourite places to find new recipes and things to try.

PRETZEL CHICKEN

8 pieces of your favorite cut of chicken
1 cup pretzel crumbs
1 / 4 cup flour
salt and pepper to taste
garlic powder, to taste
1/2 cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons lemon juice

Crush pretzels in blender. Mix (in a bowl or paper bag) pretzels, flour, salt, pepper and garlic powder. In another bowl, combine soy sauce and lemon juice. Dip chicken pieces in liquid mixture, then roll around (or shake in paper bag) in dry mixture. Put the coated pieces in a shallow or flat pan lined with foil. Bake in oven at 375 degrees for one hour. Turn over chicken over 30 minutes. Makes 8 chicken pieces.

this recipe is soo good. i am still looking for caserole ones.

Ok, I'm basically clueless when it comes to cooking.  I can make almost anything that I can read the recipe to (as long as it doesn't have any strange verbs that I don't recognize!)

Thank God for the Betty Crocker cookbook.  It's hard to find, now, but my mom bought me one when I moved out on my own.  It has glossaries and how-tos with pictures as well as lovely recipes.  It bills itself as having "everything you need to know to cook."  I recommend it to anyone who is learning!
