Thank you cards for no gifts?

I know the ettiquette says that guests don't have to give a gift at a wedding, but then do you have to write them a thank you card?  I've seen that some of you say to just thank them for "attending" the wedding or something like that.  What have you done?  Just curious how many people just opt out of writing thank you cards to guests who didn't give gifts vs. writing a generic thank you card for showing up to the wedding.  Thoughts?  TIA!

I'll probably do a thank you for attending. They did take the time to share in your day.

we had a small DW wedding, so even if my guests (only one) didn't give a gift, them making the trip was a gift to us. We sent them a thank you letter for coming to the wedding and support our relationship/marriage.

Martha says you don't have to thank a guest that doesn't bring a gift, but it's a nice gesture if you decide to.  I believe all our guests got us a gift or card so that wasn't an issue *phew*

I bought one type of thank you card. I wrote part of the message as Thank you for attending our wedding celebration, and then I added a special thank you for the wonderful *insert gift here*. If they didn't give a gift, we just basically thanked them for coming. It was nice that they were there and we were thankful- they didn't have to come lol

Yeah, this was a hard one. I wrote some cards for them anyway, but I did it sometimes with a little bit of a bad attitude. For example, when my super rich uncle came, didn't leave a gift (no biggie...kinda), but didn't even give a card saying 'Congrats'!

yeah, i know that i obviously didn't get married or have a wedding for the gifts, but it's still hard when you have people show up to your wedding and not even give a congratulations card or any sort of gift.  it just screams "rude" to me.  My DH doesn't care and he's trying to help me get over it, but a part of me is still kind of peeved.  =/  i think when i'm writing my cards, if i feel like writing them one, i will, otherwise i just won't...

I didn't send a thank you card to people who didn't give use a gift.  They could have at least giving us a card saying congrats....Unless they traveled from far away or I knew they went out of thier way to come to the wedding.

I will probably send everyone a card. Something cute that we received once was a photo card of the couple just thanking us for coming. It's definitely a nice touch, especially for people who travelled to come to the wedding.

I wrote thank you cards to everyone who came to my wedding gift or not.  :)   My thinking was that their presence was the most important gift anyway!
