The "Green" Card

I am Caucasian and born in Virgina.  My DH is Hispanic, born in El Salvador and has been a US citizen for over 30 years.  You may ask,  where is she going with this?  Wekll, since we started dating there have had several haters that have commented about the fact that he married me to obtain his US citizenship aka a green card.  To be honest, I could care less what others think though for a long time he had a problem with it.  He even had women refuse to date him because they were among the close-minded.  What a bunch of racist twits.  Now, it has become a running joke with us.  We have a lot of fun making those types of people uncomfortable.  So during our ceremony, I plan to incorporate this into my vows and give him a "green" card.

What should I say?

Should something be written on the card or just leave it blank?

Maybe you could say. . .

Well everyone thinks I needed to give you a green card and the only green card I need to give you is this one filled with messages of my love to you. You earned your right to be here and I earned the right to be in your heart.

Give him a Green heart shaped card with little private notes he can read later.

I am sorry people have given you a hard time. One of my friends married a woman from Indonesia and often gets asked if she was a mail order bride. This is hurtful in so many ways. 1 it makes him seem like he could not get a girl another way and 2 it degrades how intelligent and wonderful she is. I love her she is an amazing women with an amazing family.

People need to mind their own business.

I love the idea of a note to him and the saying that IdoAgain posted! I am so sorry that you have had people say some rude things, love is love and it can't be defined by race or gender in my opinion. If only the rest of the world could see things the same way!

Exactly Alycia! With each marriage we are strengthened as and individual and as a country. It does not matter who we marry, so long as love exists.
