Things to do in... Charleston, SC?!

Hey ladies!! FI and I will be honeymooning in Charleston, SC the week before Labor Day. We are actually staying at Folly Beach but have been assured it's a short drive into historic Charleston and want to take advantage of that. We want to have a decent mix of relaxation and exploring, and thought that with Charleston being such a historic place and so close to the relaxation of the beach that it would be a good fit. We've never been to the area though, and don't know which attractions should be on our "must do" list and which we should skip.

So.. anyone from there (or anyone whos visited) willing to give opinions? :)

I'm from Charleston! I still go there pretty frequently to visit my family, desperately wish I could move back. It's such a wonderful place to visit!

My biggest pieces of advice are stay in the historic B&B's if you can, and eat in non-chain restaurants. It's the best way to enjoy the city. I could write pages on different restaurants, but I don't know what you and your FI's tastes are. I will however, recommend one place. Sunday brunch at Poogan's Porch. Get there before 10am or have a reservation. It packs out with locals and visitors.

There are so many great plantations to go see. Highest on the list would be Boone Hall Plantation and Magnolia Plantation. They are my favorites!

Also so many beaches to choose from.

If you like pirates they have the Provost Dungeon tours and there's a pirate museum/restaurant called Queen Anne's Revenge that we always enjoy.

Carriage rides in downtown are great, as well as just walking through it. There are so many great little places you can go in and walk around, including the market on Market Street. And then there are the boat tours out to Fort Sumter. So fun!

If you like the paranormal there are several ghost tours to choose from as well.

I'm adding a link to some special events going on while you're going to be there. I recommend looking at that whole site for restaurant options and extra things to do that I may have forgotten.

I hope you guys have a wonderful time!!!  =)

from sc and went to chareston several years ago, but they had  a package deal then where you could go on a carriage ride and also get a ticket for a boat tour of the coast to see Rainbow row better.  my family really enjoyed the boat ride.  i personally get motion sickness, so the motion of the waves on the big boat made me sick.  if you have a tendency to get motion sickness i wouldnt recommend the boat tour, but if you dont get sick, i would recommend it.
