This new bride feels a little too wide!

Hello beautiful belles and brides to be!

I’m Emma. I got engaged a month ago, and the wedding fever has only just bitten me! But if the stress that's already kicked in is anything to go by, I’m going to need a space like this to share stories, craziness, ideas and tips!

I'm really keen to get into shape before my wedding (even thinking of planning a destination wedding to force myself to get bikini ready!)

Is anyone else on the same mission? It'd be great to have a support group who's going through the same experience, to encourage and advise each other.

Are there any threads/groups like this running that you ladies could point me to. If not, is anyone interested in joining one?

Looking forward to getting to know you all!

Emma

Hi Emma, congratulations on your engagement and welcome to Project Wedding. Good luck with planning!

I'm not sure if there is a group, but I'll go look for you! You can do it, just stay motivated and have a picture of the destination place of choice to help you stay inspired! Can't wait to see your wedding ideas! :)

Hi Emma! There used to be some real active fitness groups, but activity has sort of dropped a bit. There are many of us here who are into fitness though so it's worth starting to get these groups active again. Otherwise you can always post here in the main forums!

I'm expecting now so I'm not dieting but before the wedding and even up until my pregnancy I got really into it. To help get myself on the right track I downloaded the My Fitness Pal app which helps track calories. I planned it so I consumed between 1400 and 1600 calories a day. I also got really into yoga and forced myself to run. I tried to sign up for a 5k every month, that way I couldn't slack off in my training because I always had a race coming up! I am by no means a good runner, but it was a pretty big deal the first time I did a race without having to stop and walk! I also really like the Jillian Michaels DVDs. 30 Day shred is a great one! After I was bored with Jillian I started P90X and LOVED it! This summer I was bikini and midriff confident on vacation in Hawaii!

Good luck with whatever you chose!

 Hello Emma!

Welcome to PW. My wedding is in September, and I also want to get into shape. I go to gym like 2-3 times a week, use jumping rope and massage hoop at home.

Maybe I will start dieting soon. I recommend this website btw: http://lifesum.com/

Last year i got really slim using it! They have mobile apps as well, i used the one for Android.

It is not an add, I swear. Just want to help.

When is your wedding?

We are closing on our house Monday, therefore I will no longer have the 24 fitness center at our apartment when we officially move at the end of April.

I will be using my usual MyFitness Pal...if you get on there we can motivate each other.  You can track your meals and exercise on there.

Also March 1 I will be joining Tone It Up (Katrina & Karena) Nutrition Plan with the purchase of their Perfect Fit Protein and new Vitamins.  I love them, I think they are so sweet and Katrina actually has real education behind her belt.

I will be doing their videos on youtube along with my Jillian Michaels DVDs...I'm going to miss my fitness center :(

 Thanks for the responses, ladies!

Wow, bated_breath- that's the kind of inspiration I need! I'm still on the 'brisk walks' phase!

My wedding's in November. I'm currently a size 16, and I'm desperate to get down to a ten for the day (which is going to make dress alterations tricky, but what the hell!)

I think that my major problem at the moment is diet- I'm a stress eater, so the more stressed this wedding gets me, the more naughty treats I end up eating.

I'd love to start up a healthy recipe sharing thread- everything on the diet lists sounds so bland and broiled! I'm interested in finding some flavourful, healthy eating ideas and sharing them.

If anyone else is on board, I'll go ahead and get a thread going?

 It's a great idea!

I need some inspiration. Not that I have to lose a lot of weight (I am size 4-6), I just want to become more fit.

I used to go to fitness classes, yoga, pilates and cardio tae-bo. It was very very cool and I was really fit. But now I have no time for it. I go to gym at lunch break, it is located in our office building.

 Hi Emma,

First, congratulations!  It's fantastic that your FI asked you right where you are -- not after you did this or that.  So your goals are truly for you.

One of my very best friends was topping 300 lbs some years back.  She called me one day, very depressed, saying she was "hideous" and "no one would ever love [her]."  After I listened and talked her down and told she was absolutely NOT hideous ... I encouraged her to do two things:

1.  Walk the beach and find sea glass for as long as it was fun each day (walking and bending).

2.  Cut from her diet the ONE go-to cheat food that got her in trouble (she named potato chips).

She was non-commital but at least not sobbing.

Two weeks later, she called me with a mischievous pep in her voice.  "I'm almost afraid to say it," she brimmed, "because I'm afraid saying it will make it go away.  But I did the two things you said.  I've walked the beach looking for sea glass, which has been fun; and I cut out the chips.  I've lost 10 lbs!"

Shortly thereafter, my new roommate met her and asked her on her first date.

They are now happily married with two children.  She lost 140 lbs in one year, with just consistent, fun exercise and, little by little, modifying her eating habits.  Today, she lives healthy but not crazy.

I hope that story is inspiring!  You can totally do this!

Tyler

Thank you so much, Tyler- that was the most inspiring and thoughtful post.

Is there a 'like' button on this site? There really should be!

I think you're totally right- the key is to keep it fun. Maybe I should ask my fiance to hide change under the couch cushions!

Oh, wow, Emma!  You just brought back the best childhood memories.  When I was a kid and we'd be visiting an aunt's house, to keep us out of their hair while the adults talked, my aunt would tell us we could search the basement around the washer and dryer, or the bedroom around the dresser and undert he bed for change.  We'd always find a ton!  And, of course, it DID keep us busy, because you wanted to be sure you didn't miss any.  I sometimes now wonder if my aunt and uncle THREW change around those areas before we came...
