Tough Day...

Well I had my ultrasound today....and it was a very sad experience.

I will not be ovulating on this cycle of Clomid :(

She has now put me on Metaformin and I will need to be on that for a full month before we start another round of Clomid.  If that doesn't get me to ovulate, she will be moving me on to an RE.  She told me that I have "full blown" PCOS now (last time she said it was at the very beginning stages).  I couldn't help put cry during the ultrasound - I had such high hopes that I would have some promising follicles but it just didn't happen for us.

I'm so sorry ccia, I can imagine how upset and discouraged you must be right now. As hard as it will be for the next month you need to be positive and try not to stress too much.

Hopefully next month will bring better news.

I'm so, so sorry sweetie! :(  Thank goodness you had u/s's this cycle though!  I couldn't imagine not having u/s's only to go through a long, confusing cycle again not knowing what is going on!  I know it must be so devastating and frustrating to get this news but don't worry...there are many girls on PW that started Met and that, combined with Clomid, made them ovulate AND then get pregnant!  It WILL happen for you.  I wonder if maybe you should just jump straight to the RE rather than doing the Met with your ob/gyn?  Why waste time, you know?  Stay positive, hun!  This too shall pass!!  Hugs!!

The Metformin is the best thing for your body with PCOS. My OB made me wait 3 full months once I started it again. I HATED having to wait those three months but I am so glad I did because it really helped my body get to where it needs to be to support a pregnancy. I know right now it sucks...believe me, I have been there. But I promise you that this is the best thing for you. This will make the Clomid work better as well.

Thanks ladies!! I knew  you guys would understand how I was feeling yesterday - It was a sad day, but I feel much better today and have renewed hope since I have had time to read more about Metaformin.  I think yesterday was really emotional because my Mom who lives out of state was able to go with me to the u/s and I was just hoping that it was going to be good news that we would be able to celebrate together.  I think I had just built it up in my mind to be positive and hearing I didn't have any good follicles just made me fall apart...Stupid hormones all over the place!!!!

beatie - It is a blessing I had that u/s!!!  I would jump straight into an RE, but I really really love my doctor I want to give it another shot with her as long as she thinks she can help me.  She doesn't really believe in pushing me to Clomid 150 mg, so if this Metaformin for a month and then another round of Clomid doesn't work, I will be moving onto the RE. It would just be another month wait, and at least I could jump in with an RE and be on the stage of already starting Metaformin.

Alison - Thanks for your kind words from someone who has success on the drug.  Were you on 2,000 mg a day?  I am currently supposed to take 2 in the morning and 2 at the night but my doctor told me to ease in the hopes of not having any bad side effects (nausea and upset stomach were her main concerns).  Did you have any?

I was on 1500mg. I took 500mg for a week, then 1000mg for a week, then 1500mg. I took one morning, noon, and night. If I were you I would take one in the morning, one at lunch, and two at night so the side effects aren't as bad.

I will worn you...the side effects are horrible...HORRIBLE. Diarrhea all the time for the first six weeks. The only things that actually helped were yogurt and bananas. Yogurt will be your best friend!!!!

Oh, I'm sorry ccia!  I just got back after a weekend away from the boards.  I can only imagine how hard it was to hear the news, but like the other ladies said, there is still hope, and once you get the right meds and dosage, you WILL beat this horrible PCOS road block!  I'm just curious... why does a person have to be on Met for at least a month (or in Allison's case 3 whole grueling months!) before you can do the Met with Clomid?  Everything is crossed for you that this will be the stuff that gets you your sticky bean!!!!!!!

allison -- I swear, now that you are pregnant I feel so much better about all of the other PCOS gals having their day too!  Thanks for sticking around on the boards to offer experience and advice!  It's much appreciated!!!
