Treadmills

Does anyone own their own treadmill? I've been thinking about purchasing one to get back in shape, but I'm too lazy to go to the gym after work or it's too cold outside to go jogging. Any suggestions on makes, models, etc?

Cold weather is really great for jogging! At first I didn't like exercising outside but now I find it refreshing to be outside and away from the computer and television.

What about getting a stationary bike instead? I think it's better for your knees.

I thought about a bike, too.

Yeah, but it's hard to go jogging when it's cold and dark. I can't go in the mornings (I have to leave my house the latest at 6:45am, and I'm not a morning person) and by the time I get home, it's all polluted from the rush hour traffic and it doesn't clear up until it's dark. =\

I've never been a fan of treadmilles. I've always preferred elliptical machines because it's easier to watch TV since you're not bouncing around as much.

Get a treadmill with that has a variable incline. You should run at a 1-2% incline to simulate actual running.

I usually run at a 6-7% incline for a couple of miles. It's a great workout. If you work out the math, you're actually climbing 600 feet in height for every mile you run.

I'd love to work up to 5-7 miles. That'd be like climbing half-dome in terms of height!

Running at an incline = serious calorie burn.
