Vegetarians...I need your help!

DD, FI and I are scheduled to meet next week with the chef at our venue for a food tasting...we are supposed to suggest an option for our vegetarian guests...I admit I'm clueless...what would you love to see on a wedding menu as your "Vegetarian" option? TIA!

We had the same problem a few weeks ago.  We have four vegans coming and I just told the chef to come up with something and send it to me for approval...this is what they sent over yesterday

Baby Spinach Salad with Sliced Grapes and Pecans with Citrus Vinaigrette

Laquered Tofu w/ Stir-Fry Baby Bok Choy, Shiitake Mushrooms, & Sesame-Chile Sauce
on Jasmine Rice

Fresh Minted Melon Salad w/ Lemon Sorbet

I've talked to a couple of the vegans and they're fine with it.  Hope that helps!

I'm vegetarian and I have to say, one of the most upsetting things is going to a wedding and getting served a plate of veggies...Literally just steamed veggies!  The best ones I've gotten have been dishes like eggplant rollatini.  Penne vodka.  A veggie napeolean with a cream sauce (much better than just veggies) haha...something like that would be great.  Pasta is good but sometimes its also served at cocktail hour so then I'm just eating the same thing twice you know?  Hope that helps! :D

If it doesn't have to be vegan... eggplant parmesan or teriyaki tofu and veggie skewers.

What are your non-veggie options?

We have a handful of vegetarians coming to our wedding. We have a lot of artichoke and spinach appetizers, greek won tons which are amazing and has no meat in them. And for entres we have a side of mixed veggies for just the vegetarians, lots of pasta and some steamed veggie dumplings.

I'm not a vegetarian but many of our friends are so most of our social life is around a plate of veggie-suitable food.

We usually go for pastas with yummy sauces, indulgent cheeses and also vegetable curries go down a treat. I suppose it depends on the wedding theme and also what the non-veggie options are.

Risotto is always nice as is luxury stuffed pastas and succulent ratatouilles.

PW ladies are the best!  Thank you, thank you!  I want our vegetarian guests to feel cared for and well-fed.  Your suggestions are so helpful....I'll be sure to post later this month on the final choice!

A few suggestions that i have had beinge vegetarian/vegan:

Spinach or mushroom Ravioli - so tasty! (though it can be overcooked and soggy...get samples!)

Spaghetti Squash with ragout

Lentil stuffed peppers

If you have a talented chef, suggest serving seitan - a wheat protein that is textured much like meat. they could just offer the same dishes with that as a subsitite!

Thanks for asking! I'm a strict vegetarian, and I hate that people assume I'll eat the fish dinner. No dice - still an animal!

We chose the vegetable risotto for our vegetarian option. I was really pleased to see that some of our non-veg guests selected that for dinner, even with chicken and crab options.

I also love a good eggplant parm, stuffed shells, pasta primavera, or a stuffed portobella.

Ohhhhh, thanks so much for asking! I hate when I can't eat at weddings because I am vegetarian!

One thing to remember is to make sure there is protein in the veggie meal! Just because we don't eat meat, doesn't mean we don't need protein!

A great meal I had at an event once was a grilled veggie, pita, and hummus dish (inspired my now favorite meal to make at home). Other ideas would be fried or broiled tofu, or dishes with nuts in them.

And I would try to stay away from any "vegetarian" branded food. These are usually very processed, and about half of my veg friends won't eat them (including me).
