Veilshop v. White Dove Bridal

So I found White Dove Bridal through the Bridal Bargains book and ended up ordering from there.  I just wanted a very simple one-layered elbow length veil, no frills.  The price was cheap and the order was quickly processed.

The veil came and it's nice, but the quality isn't great.  For instance, it looks a little messy where the veil is sewn to the comb (but looks fine when worn because it's flipped over and you can't see it).  Also, the tulle isn't cut exactly right after the stitching to the satin cord.  However, for my purposes (to be worn only for the ceremony), it's probably fine.

BUT - I'm wondering if anyone has ordered from Veilshop.com and whether the quality there is any better.  If anyone has ordered from both and can compare the quality, that would be great!  Thanks!

Great, thanks, cvillebride!  If I am going to return the veil I bought, I need to do it by the end of this week (stringent return policies), so please let me know!

So if you customize a veil and get accents like pearls how do you know what it looks like! I'm scared, but the price was sooo good!

Not sure which site you're looking at, but if you customize your veil at White Dove, they get their veils from Illusion Bridal.  You can take a look at the pearl style at http://www.illusionsbridal.com/veils/7-251-1R-P.htm.

I'm not sure about Veilshop.

Shoot Jellie, I just checked my estimated ship date and it's not until the 3rd, so I may not have it until next week.

I'll post asap, but here's what you could do, if you don't mind paying for shipping cost and have some time, send it back and then look around a bit more maybe.

My thought is that Veil Shop is a little higher quality (and more expensive),  I chose it becuase brides gave it good reviews for the quality on the knot.

I mean it probably wouldn't matter for the cermony but pictures can really capture a lot.

I don't know anything about veilshop, but I ordered my veil from www.occanseydesigns.com like beatie recommended. Kathy was awesome in helping me choose the kind of veil that would work with my gown. The veil was great quality and it really surprised me... especially because of how inexpensive it was.

Good luck!

Abbatyref: Thanks for the recommendation.  I looked on the website yesterday after Beatie brought it up, but I'm a little irked by the lack of return policy.  Which veil did you order?  I'll feel better ordering something that someone else has already bought.

Hello Jellie,

I just got my veil from veilshop and I have to say I'm impressed with the quality. No obvious snafu's and the fabric seems pretty nice.

I didn't get any edging so I can't tell you about that though.

But I've had a good experience with them. I'd recommend them the veil was 81 for chapel length with blusher.

good luck!

Hi Jellie,

I ordered a single tier, ivory veil with a pencil edge, a few inches longer than chapel length. I ordered it on a plastic comb and it was cut differently so it was more sheer at the comb... less bunching I guess. It was perfect and much better quality that I anticipated considering it cost me $50 bucks. I was totally cool with the lack of return policy because I was ordering a custom product. If I didn't like it, I would have just ordered a new one and put the original one on eBay. My budget was expecting to spend a lot more $$ on a veil, so I had some room to work.

HTH! Good luck!

Oh yeah, for $2 you can order sample swatches from OccanseyDesigns. They would give you an idea as to the quality of the tulle she uses.

Thank you all for your recommendations and help!!  You will NOT believe this, but while I was inspecting my veil more closely yesterday, I discovered that the satin cord was sewn on the wrong side of the tulle!

ARGH.  I am definitely returning it, and I am looking to order from Veilshop or Occanseydesigns.  I found this woman in New York who makes custom veils for around the same price as Veilshop and others, so I am going to see her on Saturday.

In all my haste to order one, I also made an appointment at Saks for tomorrow morning so I can take a look at the "couture" veils, although I really doubt the quality merits the price tags.

How long did it take for you gals to receive your veils from VS and OD?

Crazy! Definately return that veil!

I wasn't in a rush and it took a little over a week from OD.

Corina - that veil is gorgeous.

Luckily, I did some work this weekend and found a veil shop here in New York in the East Village, called Bridal Veil Falls - it has one pretty positive review on PW.

The charming old woman who runs the shop was great - very patient, and she is going to make a custom veil for me for just a little more than the prices online (according to the saleswoman at Saks who helped me with my veil appointment, I need something longer than a petite fingertip but shorter than a fingertip veil)!  Also, this woman's workmanship seems way better than many I saw.

So the saga ends happily.
