Vent: 2011 frustration

sorry I just had to take a moment...

I am so tired of people telling me that I have a whole year till my wedding. Or that I can wait till later to work on stuff.

They assume I don't have a million other things to do in my regular everyday life.

Not only do I have 3 jobs, i'm trying to coordinate a cross country move (FI is stationed in KY) lose 30 lbs and plan a wedding.

Some stuff I won't be here for if i'm moving, so I'm trying to get as much done now as possible. Not to mention FI deploys in a month, and I will be doing all this by myself for a year!! Plus my date is 11.11.11. That's a popular date.

If I want to plan now, let me plan NOW!!

Just ignore them!  I only have 2.5 months left and what I wouldn't give right now to have a few more months of planning.  I really wish I had done more early on in the planning.  As you get closer you will be really glad you started the planning early on!!

Ignore them...I was you a year ago (got engaged Dec. 2008, getting married Aug. 2010), and most people thought we were silly for planning so early.  None of those people had planned a wedding recently!  All it took to get people off my back was to explain how when we contacted photographers, 1 year 8 months in advance, there were still photographers that we wanted to meet with that were booked already!

Or how about that it takes 6-8 months for a wedding dress to come in, and 6-8 weeks for alterations to be done PLUS all the time you need to find the right one.

Focus on the people that DO care...my MOH, my sisters, etc. were all very excited and willing to go dress shopping 1.5 years in advance :)

I started planning 18 months ahead of my wedding. It takes awhile to figure out this stuff!

FI & I got engaged last Febuary & our wedding isn't until this October & I started right away because I knew I was starting graduate school in May. Don't let people get you down. It can take awhile to figure out a budget, how big you want your wedding to be & what your style is. I waited on some things like buying my dress or ordering the girl's dresses because styles change but good venues and photographers usually do go fast.

We started planning 17 months in advance. I had to listen to the same nonsense...but although it's annoying, you just have to ignore them. This is YOUR wedding so their opinion carries no weight whatsoever. Keep on planning girl! :)

I hear ya! People have been telling me constantly "you have plenty of time" I was getting so pissed. People still say it from time to time and the wedding is in Oct. I know it's not next week but damn, I don't want to be scrambling at the last min. Plus in Sept and October I have so much work going on as well as we are doing the marathon. I don't know if they've heard but training to run 26 miles takes a bit if time out of your sch!

That's why I love coming on here, I can get my wedding fix and not have to listen to anyone bitch about my planning! :)

I feel you!

Our wedding is 9/24/11 and just last night someone asked me what I had planned this weekend. I said, "not much, but my FI and I are meeting with a DJ on Sunday."

The guy was like, "Why are you meeting with a DJ? You guys have a really long time until your wedding. You shouldn't even be thinking about a DJ yet. You're crazy!"

It's sort of like 1) why in the world do you care when I decide to book my vendors? and 2) how am I supposed to know how much money I should be setting aside for this darn wedding if I don't actually talk to people?!

People were actually surprised when I told them we didn't get our original date (9/10/11) because the venue had been booked already...and that was back in January.

Amen sister!!! I hear that! I began planning WHILE he was deployed and it was a year out and people were like, he's not even HERE you have SO much time. Ummmmm HE doesn't need to be in the country to plan and things were already booked up a year out. We're moving too and that's stressful in itself! Plus weight loss...sheesh. Good luck with everthing and planning ahead will make you so much more relaxed later!

Omg, I totally understand what you mean. I had a two year engagment too! People would always say "oh you have so much time" or "don't worry about it, will take care of it later." I felt that no one was excited because of me having a long engagment. What they didn't understand was that i work, i go to school, i have internship.. so I too wanted to get things out of the way now versus later.

Girl, book as much as you can now. DO your research and get it out of the way. I'm so glad I did. I have 7 1/2 months until my wedding and have most of my vendors booked, have my dress, bridesmaid dresses are pretty much selected, i have invitations, etc. etc. You have PW to vent to and you have us to look at all your great ideas! Its a great support system! :)

just push what others aside, who gives a crap what they have to say. get your stuff done early and i promise, you will be happy you did later!! (Plus, alot of the times places raise prices every year and if you book early you may avoid that!)

First let me say whoo whoo for being my date twin! Secondly ignore them because they have no clue how to plan a wedding if they think it can be done in a couple of weeks! It's stressful enough as it is absorbing the whole marriage thing you don't need the added drama!

Don't worry about it!  I have everything booked and I am a July 2011 bride!  But you know what?  I got the venue I have dreamed of, the food I wanted, basically - I got my dream wedding by planning so far ahead!!  If I had sat on my butt and waited until this time next year, I would not have gotten any of it!

Forget about people, they just love to criticize anything that they aren't involved in.

When I was planning a year in advance and vendors refused to talk to me because it was "too early" I would tell them, "too bad, you just lost a possible client" and found somebody who WOULD work with me that soon in advance. If somebody wants your business bad enough, they will talk with you this early.

it's partly vendors but it's the other peoplethat are irritating me. LOL. I booked my venue and my DJ, officiant, and still deciding on a photog...but the bakery brushed me off. And even my BM's. I've been trying to explain to them, that i'm not picking their dress yet, but I wanted to get a feel for what they want to wear. Even moms...occasionally she is like enough...but i'm moving in 45 days. I will be across the country. By the time everyone realizes it IS time to plan, I won't even be here.

Oh Armysweet, I HEAR you on BM's!!!  Except mine is kind of opposite - one of my BM's is sending me dresses all the time!  What if something really cute and new comes out this winter?!?  It's not like there is a long wait for bridesmaid dresses.  If there is nothing that I love now, then we aren't getting them until this winter!!

Keep on planning girl, this is your wedding, everyone else just needs to show up!
