Venue pricing question

We put down a deposit at a banquet hall and reserved our date for next year. While we were there the owner was really nice and she gave me a few papers with menu choices and linen options etc. She said that she would email me a bigger packet of information later. The prices on the papers from her have 2013 on them.

So I get the emailed packet of info yesterday and the (higher) prices now say 2014. I thought that we would get 2013 prices since that's when we booked them. I sent her an email asking her about this and she sent one back saying that the event is going to be in 2014 and so we need to pay those rates and also that some months are busier for her than others and so you have to pay a higher rate in the premium months too. She said that May through October is "wedding season" and the prices reflect that.

Ladies am I wrong?  Should we be getting 2013 prices?

When we put the deposit down we didn't really set anything in stone. We really just wanted to hold the date and we told her that we could iron out all the details as it got closer to the wedding. I don't know if she's trying to screw us or not but it just doesn't seem quite right.

from my experience, what she said isn't surprising at all. They do charge more during those months ( even though that's changing now ) but the pricing going up should only account for inflation ( approximately 2-3%). It shouldn't be a huge price jump.

So , I think you should put some pressure on them. Call them back and explain yourself and say that you don't want to have to pay the extra cost because it was hard enough budgeting for this one. Explain that she should have told you about the price difference cause then you would not have booked the venue.  just be convincing. Trust me, most venues don't want to alienate customers and CAN accommodate.

My venue is throwing in all linens because I said I thought their tables weren't very nice. lol.

When we booked our venue we were given 2013 prices even though our wedding isn't until 2015. Our venue is quite expensive because it's a castle. It really isn't surprising she did this but as wiwiandyaya said I would email her and explain you didn't realize this and she should have mentioned that prior to you booking. I think if you act like you may change your mind due to this she may give you the 2013 pricing. They don't like to lose money.

Thanks for the responses ladies.  :)

I just had thought that when you booked a venue that you would get the prices for that year. I'm going to call her tomorrow and see what she says. Also the prices are going up about $20 per person and the open bar prices are going up about $1,000 total. That doesn't seem right to me.

$20 per person seems like a big jump!!! I agree, call and ask if you can meet somewhere in the middle. Ask her what all your options are!

I agree with Uhlease that is a big jump. Our venue wanted to charge us $250 an hour for every hour over 9 and we need 12 1/2 hours total. When I acted as though we would have to find another venue she quickly wanted to make a deal with us. Good Luck. Let us know what happens
