Vera Wang Diana & Mailing Fabric.

Hey all!

I have been following everyone's posts and as I was SO excited to use Milly a few months ago, I am not getting a little anxious about it now.  I do, however, have a year and a half until my wedding date, so I am confident that time is not an issue (if I start now!) but I am worried about communication (as most of you experience problems with with them) and maybe technical skill with such a complicated dress.  (See photos).

The dress is a mixure of both silk organza (which they have) and silk tulle (which they do NOT have).  I would like to use both fabrics as I have tried this dress on and love love love that it is mainly tulle with silk overlays.  I have found a great deal online for tulle, but not ONLY has Milly ensured me that I will need 66 yards (what in the WORLD?!?!) but that I can purchase it myself and mail it to them to use.  I am wondering if anyone else has done this before.  And thoughts on them making this dress?  Has anyone done or seen them make the Vera Wang Diana?

Yes, Milly has had fabric shipped from a bride and used it to make a gown (she is in the group if you look, I can't remember the name). I believe the bride was happy with the quality of the dress, just not the size of the bustline. The amount of fabric they asked for is a lot but there is a lot of fabric on that dress and they need extra for changes or mistakes. They have done a dress like this, there are two on there website you can check out. Smart to order now because it seems that November-March are pretty much a wash for them.

yeah, it might have been snowyflake who sent Milly fabric.

after my experience with Milly, I really can't recommend them any longer.  For the longest time I really supported them and always took their side whenever brides on this forum complained about their dress.  Hell, I don't even have my dress and it was paid for in January and my wedding is 11 weeks away.

Yep, it was me who sent Milly fabric for my dress.  I sent them 5 yards of silk tulle.  I found the tulle from an online vendor for $55 a yard.  I wouldn't use silk tulle if they require 66 yards of it.  That would set you back $3,300!  If you're even considering going down this route, why not just by the dress second hand?  I saw your dress on www.preownedweddingdresses.com for $5,000.

If the fabrics and and detail are important to you, you should try to buy the dress second hand because Milly will not be able to make an exact duplicate for you.

Given all the recent complaints on the site about Milly, I would think twice about using them too.  It seems they just don't have the capacity to deal with all the orders now, leading to poor customer service and poor quality.  They seem to have become a victim of their own success.

I have considered purchasing the dress second hand, which is not out of the question, but it is still incredibly expensive (I had seen the one on Preowned wedding dresses AND Once Wed...most likely the same seller).  I suppose the dress has not be purchased by many people just yet to find it from different sellers.  Also, I just ordered a sample of silk tulle from Fabric.com for $1 a yard!!!!!  So the extra cost of $70 for silk tulle is not that bad at all.  I do have plenty of time to have Milly do it, which makes me comfortable, and I am not looking for a spot on replica, but pretty dern close.  It does make me feel a little bit better as well that if the dress does not come out how I expect that I would have time to make magic happen and find another one and would only loose half of the cost ($300) from Milly's guarantee.  I feel like for a total of $700 as opposed to $700 it is a gamble worth taking.....

Any four ladies wanna go in on the real dress?  HAHAHAHAH.

& snowflake, they sent me photos of your test dress when I asked if they had done the Diana for anyone yet.  Not the Diana, but GORGEOUS!  From the photos it appears they are really doing an amazing job!

Also, regarding the 66 yards of fabric, I think that if I were asking for the ENTIRE dress to be made of silk tulle, which I am not.  I think that was a communication error.  Regardless, I can not wait to get the sample of it in the mail, I hope it doesn't look or feel like it is a $1 a yard!  It said SILK TULLE and looked legit online so let's cross our fingers!

ps:  I just emailed dressilyme.com to get a quote on the dress.  Ran across a forum here and there are a few reviews of other brides (and upset Milly brides) and figured it couldnt hurt to look into them as well.

AshleyStuart,

$1 for a yard of silk tulle sounds too good to be true.  Silk tulle is very expensive and very hard to find.  I found it for $65 per yard in San Francisco (they had it locked up).  If you want you can PM me and I can send you a sample of the real stuff (left over fabric), so you can compare with the sample of the $1 tulle you are getting.  Silk tulle always has a hexagonal interlock.  If you receive it and the interlock is diamond shaped, it is not silk tulle.

Snowflake, you are correct.  After further inspection, they just call it "silk" when in fact it is nylon.  As long as it is lightweight and softer than regular tulle, I would be happy, so I am still looking forward to seeing the sample.

I am an interior designer so I could get my hands on silk tulle at cost, but it would most likely take some serious looking around.  Snowflake, have you received your dress yet? Were you pleased?  I emailed another company (Dressilyme) and am considering going with them now, just need a bit more research....

I really appreciate everyone's input so far!

I sent an email to every address I have for them cancelling my order. I also requested a refund through google checkout. I'm done. Good luck Ashley.

Sorry things didn't work out for you dirtykittens. I think you made the right choice and in the end you'll be much happier not dealing with them any longer.

Hi Everyone,

I know Ashley Stuart was joking about 4 ladies teaming up for the real thing, but after enough research, that doesn't sound so out of the question...

Any 3-4 ladies up for joining forces to buy a pre-worn Diana? (I'm serious.) I'm a size 0 or 2, but anything in the 0-4 range will do with some alterations...Pre-worn Diana costs circa 5K online, possibly negotiable down to 4/4.5K, which is still steep, so is anyone up for joining forces?

Lebowska, I would be willing to go in with a several ladies, but I am more like a size 4-6 and 5'7".  I don't know if dresses can be let out that much.  I am looking into it.  When is your wedding?

Ashley Stuart, my wedding isn't until April of 2011, so I am thinking about getting Milly or someone else to recreate Diana.  Let me know what you decide.  What was the nylon tulle sample like?

I want to order a tulle gown, but I'm terrified that they will use the cheap hard nylon tulle.  Tulle can look beautiful when it's soft (Silk).  I've been thinking about buying my tulle and shipping it to the vendor.  I came across this company
