wall striping!

http://www.thepaintedsurface.com/images/stripefs.jpg

This is my plan for the weekend. I want to do a clear varnish. I was wondering if anyone had any tips or things to be wary of as I attempt this! I am assuming I can just go buy a clear wall varnish...lol I guess I am going to find out! Thanks for the help ladies!!

We were going to do this to our guest room but decided that we'd wait until we were expecting.

You need two paints, same color different finish. We were going to do a matte finish and a satin finish.

We did this in grey in our office & I love it! We used two different colors like Ashley suggested. My Mom & I Painted the whole room in the flat & Let it dry. The next day we measured out the strips (the hardest part) and and painted with the high gloss. =] You can kind of see it in the photos below

Thanks ladies! I know you can do with the matte vs. satin finish of the same color, I might do that if it turns out to be cheaper than the actual can of varnish. Your stripes look awesome!!! I am actually doing this in the babies room which currently looks like this :

Thanks ladies I know photo 2673937-1

The entire house is completlyyyyyyyyyy demo'd so it is progressing.  The bottom part of the wall isn't painted because we will be putting on wainscoting/chair rail around the room like this!

So all the trim needs to come off and be painted white as well. Also...the door is getting the boot, don't want the LO getting his/her fingers caught!

@Ford: We're planning on doing wainscoting as well. Let me know how it goes. This project will take place next month. Good luck!

We are actually doing the mock-wainscoting to cut costs...so it will just be trim on the drywall, painted all white, but I still think it will look great! I will definintely post updates! While I am doing the painting in the baby room this weekend, DH is going to be staining the whole downstairs! yaY!

As it turns out here in Ontario- they are no longer producing oil based paints- which is the only type here the offers a glossy finish. The latex paints have a semi gloss, so I bought a shade darker in the semi gloss, and we are going to see how that goes!

I just finished doing photo 2683812-1I just finished doing this treatment in our guest room. Instead of using a gloss finish I used the same paint one shade darker. I love how it turned out. Was alot of work but totally worth it. My best tip is that once you have made your lines with tape take a credit card or your DL and run along the edges of the tape to give it a tight seal. I did this and my lines turned out perfect!

Hope yours goes well, can't wait for you to post pics!

those directions are pretty close to the ones I use too. I found the hardest part was the taping. i kept taping on the wrong side of the line but figure it out right quick:)
