Wedding Coordinator? Outdoor wedding, tented reception, everything a la carte.

I'm so anxious about this whole wedding coordinator thing ...

My finance is basing his opinion how necessary or unnecessary they are on when he was catering, he kinda' think a maitre d' could do everything but I feel like there is so much more with our kind of a-la-carte outdoor wedding where EVERYTHING, even toilets, are being rented.

I just don't know how much I should spend on one. The coordinator I think is great is around 5k, another who I haven't spoken with yet is about 3k and I found another person who is really just DAY OF for $1500.

The least expensive one said she hasn't done events in the area where we will be getting married, does that matter, idk, maybe?

I haven't spoken with the $3000 one yet, speaking with her tonight.

The $5000 one (who will come down from that), brings 2 other ppl, emails me back like 10 min after I email her EVERY TIME, really seems to know what she's talking about, will come out with me 2-3 times to see the place and designs, has really pretty pics on her FB page, and will do stuff like ironing my linens before the wedding (we are purchasing everything ourselves), take care of bathroom trailer if it breaks, and HAS worked in the area before. She's just $5000 ...

I think its all about how much do I want to spend to make sure everything goes as I want it to, with peace of mind so I can enjoy our wedding day.

What do you guys think? Need one? Don't? How much should I be willing to spend?

Tough call. All I can say is our day of coordinator was SO helpful!!! Ours came with the venue for a small extra fee (and it's hard to image me spending TOO much on a DOC--but they are super helpful.) Plus, your venue it seems like you would have a lot of different things to keep in line.

It's like insurance, maybe everthing will go smoothly, but would you rather have some money put into a DOC in case something happens and you don't want to have to deal with anything?

HOpefully after you talk to the $3000 one, you like her, because even a savings of 2 grand is huge!! See how much you can negotiate with them, maybe less price for  few less services? Good luck!!

I am having a coordinator. Their fee is usually based on what hey do. $5k seems life,e a lot of money unless she is doing it all from beginning of planning to the end. I old negotiate services and ori based on who you like best. Its about what you want them to do and how much you are willing to pay. Mine is $1000 but our area is probably cheaper too

planning a wedding is difficult and there are so many details to consider in the average wedding, but when the entire day is outside there are even more things to consider.  i would look at your situation 2 ways

1. do you have a lot of free time to educate yourself on everything you will need and book and plan the wedding on your own?  if you do, then i would talk with the wedding coordinators in your area and find one you like.  then a week before the wedding i would sit down and go over every thing you have.  that way, if you have forgotten something she has time or you have time to correct it.  and that way she knows you better and she can take over the day of.

2.  if you really dont have free time to do it all yourself, then i would recommend a planner.  it may seem like it is a lot of money and honestly it is, but most planners have tricks up their sleves that can save you money too.  plus they are really great for making sure you stay within the budget you have set.  the biggest thing is that your stress will be reduced because you have a person you trust working on getting it all together.

I love love loved out coordinator. Everything went smoothly and I couldn't have imagined not having her. That said, she came with our venue. She wasn't at the church so I had my brother and brother in law's girlfriends help with stuff at the church. But at the reception everything went off perfectly timed and without a hitch. I was so busy with everything else that it was such a relief not to have to think about anything else. I know that if we had to pay for her seperatly, that it might have been a tougher decision, but after having been through it I would totally splurge.

 Thanks for your thoughts!

We've decided it would be a good idea to go with a coordinator. She's much more than just a day-of, but not a planner - kind of in the middle somewhere. Don't know if anyone has heard of her, Cassandre Snyder Events ... she has really pretty pictures on her FB page and is SO responsive! I found that a lot of other planners took a few days to get back to me and she emails me back as soon as I send my message to her. For me, its really important that I feel like the person I am entrusting our vision to is responsive.

All that's left is to get references and sign the contract.

I think its going to be the best thing. My finance and I have put so much time, energy and MONEY into the wedding, we want to be able to enjoy our day - not spend it worrying about the bathroom trailer working! :)

Thanks again for your input all!
