Wedding Dress Hunt is on....white or ivory?

Howdy Ladies!

Hope all is well. I went to a lovely boutique yesterday seeking my wedding dress and by golly I think I've found it.

Told the assistant I'd like to sleep on it...but comparing my other visit to my 1st wedding dress outing, it seems white dresses are not being offered/made any more.

Both places I went to and the dresses I liked, it did not come in white. My initial thought was white dress, but I dont think I would mind an ivory dress. My mom then said usually your first wedding dress is white, 2nd is ivory, 3rd blue LOL...and I think she's right in a way. In addition to her reminding me that somebody will end up wearing off white/ivory to my wedding.

So now I think I'm going to go to one more spot to see if I find a dress in white.

the dress i love and is the dress for now doesn't come in white but its within budget. so IDK...

What color did you wear or plan on wearing and why?

so yesterday I visited another salon...and again most of the dresses were ivory but it was much lighter than the previous dress. The shop assistant basically said for each designer, the ivory variation will vary....some will have a pearl undertone and other may be yellow. She was awesome!

I absolutely LOVED 2 dresses! and the store was fab too as it had large windows with the sun shining through, so I really got a feel for how I'd look on my day....beautiful!

Of course, they were way outside the budget though LOL.  Everything I love is always outside the budget.....

A friend of mine said if I go to a trunk show for that particular designer I can possibly get it for even cheaper.

Has anyone lucked out at a trunk show and was the savings that huge?

 Where are the photos?!?!?

There have been lots of lucky ladies who have got great deals at trunk shows, but I don't know enough about them to say whether it will work for you.

There are websites where brides sell their dresses - is that something you would consider?

Both of these boutiques/salons didnt allow me to take a photo, but I do remember how I felt in them. I actually tried to sneak and take a shot, but it didn't come out right...my cam sux!

Dont think I'd go the  route of buying someone else dress.

I think that whole ivory thing is an outdated thought. I wore ivory for my first (and my last!) wedding and there wasn't any issue about it!

So I didn't buy from a trunk show, but I did buy my dress at Macys Running of the Brides.  I saved $1K on the dress, it was a huge savings for me. Something to consider: does the salon offer free alterations if you buy from them? Alterations can add up in cost, so that can be huge savings. It cost about $250 for my alterations, so overall the $1K was greater savings!

No one will really notice that your dress isn't white unless you're standing next to a bright white table clothe or something anyway! My dress isn't exactly white but I like it that way. Not everyone can pull of a perfectly white dress and ivory matches skin tones so much easier.

So glad you've found dresses you love so far!! Like the lady at the boutique said, all ivorys are not equal! I had an ivory dress, and it looked white to me!! lol. Not bright white, but white, and like holly mentioned, ivory looks good on most skin tones vs white sometimes not looking great in contrast!

I've never heard of trunk show successes, but if you know the designer and dress number/name and size, just call around to different salons in and outside your area to see if they carry the dress you want and compare prices! Good luck!

Darn about no taking photos in the boutique, we love seeing pics on here! lol, good luck, keep us updated!

Have you actually tired on a white dress? Not all skin tones look good in white. I personally tried on a white dress and hated it on me. My dress is actually a champagne / mushroom colour. And i still feel 100% a bride in it. As long as you love it and feel good in it, I dont think it matters what colour it is.

My dress was of the champagne family so it had a tint of pink it in.  You probably can't even tell from my pics on my bio but it was gorgeous!  I knew I didn't want ivory, left that up to my flower girls to wear.

Pick whichever dress you feel comfortable with. :)
