Here's your thread ladies!!!
Wow, I haven't posted here in awhile.
Well, it's here--our first Christmas as a married couple. We're both quite excited, but Wes especially so. This is my first week off for break, and while I would have loved to have slept in more, I just wasn't able to do that. So I'm sitting here, drinking a cup of coffee, and just enjoying the quiet before the storm hits. Today we need to straighten up the apartment, and I need to fix up some poor man's gingerbread (I made it as a dessert for a Christmas party, and he loved it so much that he wanted it for Christmas morning breakfast). Tonight we have our church's Christmas Eve service, and after that we will head over to my grandparents' place to spend some time with them and open gifts.
Tomorrow will actually be the day that I need the most strength; we're spending the day with his family, and I'm still adjusting to the way they do things and how they react to certain things. I come from a family that, while they have their problems, they're always laid back. Our motto is, "Hey, don't sweat it! Things will get done when they get done, and there's no need to stress over a holiday meal." My family is also about just sitting around, visiting, and having a good time with each other. The women are fairly independent, and our men do not expect us to wait on them hand and foot. Wes' family is sort of the opposite. His grandparents believe in eating at a certain time, his grandmother fixes his grandfather a plate first (he expects this), and she serves dessert when he wants it served, and when he's done eating, he gets up from the table, leaving his dishes there for her or someone else to clean up everything else while he sits in his chair and does whatever he wants. If you couldn't tell, this behavior rubs me the wrong way, but I'm trying to get accustomed to it. I don't feel very relaxed at his grandparents place because I feel I have to watch what I say and do to not get his grandfather ranting about something being unAmerican (I just discovered that he doesn't like Target because they don't post pictures of people in the military from the area, and he thinks that writing a "7" with a line through it is unAmerican--it's European, and we don't need to do things like the Europeans, according to him...yeah, that didn't go over well for this Target-loving woman who writes a line through her 7s!). But his family is now my family, and I know I've got to adjust and learn to find what I can love rather than focus on what irritates me.
Wednesday we're taking Roxy to finally get spayed, which means I can't go anywhere or do anything, just in case something happens and they need to call me.
Thursday, I plan to do ABSOLUTELY nothing! I'm thinking a couch/TV/PJs marathon is in order while Wes sleeps.
Christina, that would be difficult for me to handle as well!! Hoping it goes smoothly for you!!
I feel bad for DH, he has just today and tomorrow off work and we have been non stop for DAYS. To make it worse, I think I made plans ALL of next weekend too-oops! His birthday is New Years Day so I MUST make sure this guy has at least one day of relaxation!
This week we just have Christmas with my family tonight/tomorrow morning and then tomorrow afternoon with his family. They are all pretty laid back, so I think it will be a great time. Last night we exchanged gifts with his parents--they totally got me the Silhouette Cameo I wanted! Score! haha
Hoping you all have a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
Hey ladies! Looks like everyboy it caught up in Christmas festivities!
Here we celebrated Christmas Eve with both our families and yesterday, we had my parents, sisters, grandma and grandparents over for dinner. It was a blast!
Today we're taking it easy at home ause we have another party with my dad's side of the family on th 27th and then with my mom's side on the 28th!
I also plan on seeing my bestfriends on the 30th so it will be a crazy week! But I love Christmas and the festivities surronding it so it's just perfect!
Hope everybody had a beautiful Christmas with the people they love!
Christina, Your Grandfather In Law would HATE ME
I cross my 7's z' and 0's I spell harbour etc. I read Beatrix Potter to my children and preambulators are what I used to push my kids around in.
I prefer Tea to Coffee and I LOVE shopping for unique imported gifts.
Why, because I grew up with a mom who was a military brat and she lived in England for 5 years and Germany for 5 years and those were during her childhood and preteen years, so I don't see how he could say I was being unAmerican. The military sent them there.
We had an amazing Christmas with our little family.
Hey ladies, I hope everyone has had a great week. Yay Christina for posting!!! You should definitely hang out in the group more - we <3 having you! I hope you enjoyed the time with DH's family and things were not too stressful. I hope you at least got to enjoy yourself a little. I too used to cross my 7s, but got in trouble at school a lot, so I stopped. I am in the same boat with a lot of DH's family (he really doesn't have a relationship with them either), but his stepfather is really an extremely difficult person to get along with and is very opinionated; meaning he is always right and no one else should even try to speak their mind. Heck, the man called me motivationally challenged the FIRST day I met him years ago because I work at home. LOL
Jess - awww, I can definitely feel for you about DH. I hope he has a chance to take a breather soon and Happy Early Birthday to him!!! Can't wait to see your cameo!!!
Pascale - It sounds like you are having a great and BUSY holiday season. I don't know how you are doing that many parties. : ) Christmas is my favorite time of the year too, so I can understand not having a problem with all the festivities.
Rania - Yay for getting spoiled and what an AWESOME idea of going away for Christmas! That sounds like a perfect, stress-free holiday! Congrats on your new position with that group! You are going to have tons of fun!!! Can't wait to hear all about your adventures.
We are getting ready for tomorrow's festivities and then next Sunday, Epihany or Little Christmas, is when we will celebrate and open Christmas gifts, have another Christmas dinner and just hang out and relax. After the 6th though, we have to take our tree down (insert sad face) until next year. Our tree is actually doing great so it's not that big of a deal, plus we did get it a week before Christmas. LOL.
I am so glad that you ladies had a wonderful Christmas and now it's almost time for 2013!!!
