Weekly Update Thread: November 12 - November 18

Good morning ladies!!! I am hoping for an extremely productive week this week and possibly some awesome news about work.

On the sad/bummer side - we will not be able to go to GA to surprise my aunt and uncle for Thanksgiving because of the storms, but I am trying to see if we can volunteer for Thanksgiving this year.  : )

What are you beauties looking forward/doing this week?

Becca - sorry your plans for Georgia fell through. My husband and I, as well as another friend, will all be volunteering to serve a Thanksgiving dinner at a local shelter. Then we'll come home where I'll cook our own. I'm looking forward to this week going by quickly, as I'll be off on vacation all next week (trying to burn vacation hours by end of the year or risk losing them). This weekend my husband and I went to our local university's came against Wyoming...we froze to death! The temp was about 45 with winds blowing at about 40 mph.  We only made it through the first quarter, then went home!

@Becca - Sorry your plans fell through! I know how you feel because last year we made plans to go to Chicago and it snowed so bad in Chicago we couldn't go and because I got tickets for hotel on hotwire, we lost money too. But that is awesome you are going to do some volunteer work! Just warms the soul to aid others! So what's the awesome news about work? Come on, spill it!

@melsmith - That is also awesome you are volunteering at local shelter. I commend you for going to the game in such weather because I would have been watching from television! Lol. Did they win?

My job is still insane and probably will be for the next couple of months. My husband's oldest son is cooking for us at our house for thanksgiving and I just thought that was precious! My dad, my sister and her family, Cale's parents, Cale's other two children and two of Cale's close friends are also coming over for Thanksgiving so I am excited! Someone usually throws a huge gathering for the whole family and it can be overwhelming and exhausting, so it is nice to have an intimate dinner! This weekend we had Cale's youngest kids and my two nieces, so we took them to see Ice Age 4 in 3D. I think all the adults, including myself and Cale, loved the movie more than the kids! Lol. This upcoming weekend taking my stepson to the base Saturday to get things to prepare Thanksgiving dinner and taking my dad to lunch because he is not to far away from the base. Thinking of some things to do with my hubby. . .I just love quality time with him!

@Becca - sorry about your plans falling through, that's always a bummer.

@Mel - can we say cold?! Goodness I hope they won! And kudos to you and Becca for trying to volunteer.

@Tressy - your intimate Thanksgiving plans sound sweet. Sometimes are the better ones vs. the big productions!

Same boat as you Tressy, I'm still overwhelmed at work and maxed out but we just hired a new person and looking for a 2nd so help is coming! Yesterday I hosted a baby shower for one my best girls and I'm now looking forward to not making any plans or hosting any parties. I'm wanting to relax for a bit. lol

The tough part coming is always tough, holidays with the family - which side if we can't do both. I dread this part because I always feel guilty about not seeing one side or the other. C'est le vie I guess!

Thanks so much ladies!!!  I was really heartbroken, having set my heart on it, but DH and I have had many struggles since October last year and we are just going to take this is a sign that our presence here to help out our neighbors is most needed and we will plan for something next year.  I have told DH though if we are ever fortunate to win the lottery, I am taking time off from my MT position so we can travel around the country to see family and my PW family too.  LOL

@Mel - OMG, you are crazy girl!!!  I love football and all, but I don't think I could sit out in that weather for it anymore.  It is nice that you are volunteering too!!! Your job doesn't let you roll over your vacation days?  I haven't worked as an employee in an office in so long, I can't remember if my last job did.  lol

@Tressy - I hope being busy at work is a good thing for you.  Oh my gosh, that is SO sweet of your stepson to making dinner for you guys.  I just love hearing stories like this, especially around the holidays.  : )   LOL - I heard a lot of good things about that movie!

@Ashley - How was the baby shower?  I remember you were throwing that this weekend.  I hope you had a blast!  That's good to hear that you are getting some help at work.  I can definitely understand that feeling of guilt about which family to go to for the holidays.  That is always a tough one it seems like.

LADIES -can you believe it's almost the end of the year???!!!  EEK!

Becca - the shower was awesome, everything turned out perfectly, good turn out, and the Momma was happy. :) I keep getting compliments on what a wonderful shower it was but I was pooped afterward! I'll post up some photos on the MF once I get them off the camera.

@Ashley - Glad they hired a new person! We are getting a new person as well starting next week, but it has no impact on my job. For instance, the owner told the manager to create all this new forms for the Senior Program. Now why she didn't tell me to do it is beyond me, but I might as well have done it because my manager pulls me in her office all day asking me how to do something! It drives me crazy she won't use Excel and uses Word to create spreadsheets!!!!  Can't wait to see pictures of baby shower and I bet you were exhausted!

@Becca - It doesn't feel like a good thing yet except it passes the day away. I wish I knew my exact role in the expansion. I don't want to be bombarded with crazy deadlines at the last minute. Whoever hits the lottery first we will send one another money! I just want to retire now, travel and crochet. And no I can't believe it is the end of the year already. Time waits for no one!

Becca & Mel-That is so great that you guys are volunteering. I've done it in the past, and almost every year I want to help, but haven't recently. I really commend people for putting others first like that.

Tressy & Ashley-I hope things eventually even out for you guys at work!! Ashley, let me know when you guys are thinking about moving out to Sac! lol, jk ;) Can't wait to see pics from the baby shower! One of my friends thinks she may be getting engaged around CHristmas (can never be too sure lol) so I'm thinking if that happens, I might be helping plan another wedding soon!! haha

As for us this week...nothing special. I have the early shift 3 days this week, so that's nice in order to clean things up around the house because I'm off by 2pm. Trent wasn't feeling well yesterday, so hopefully he's better today!!

I didn't get photos up last night but I'll do that tonight. DH and I had an outing to Target and just walked around a bit and we bought new shoes. Random night to say the least. LOL

Elise - I wish I got off at 2, that would make running errands and cleanging up so managable! I hope Trent feels better! And funny you should ask about us moving. DH and his parents were in Auburn area yesterday looking at houses. They found they want to buy so we'll see!

We'll live in the house his parents buy until we get settled with jobs and figure out what area we want to buy in. We're pretty open from Roseville to Grass Valley.

And ladies, I found a way to share my photos w/ you w/o having to upload them to here.

Wow, that's awesome! That's the hard part about buying a house...deciding what area you want to stay in for a long time!! Our friends live in Roseville, and the houses are really affordable out there!

Hey lovelies,

I'm sorry, I've been a bit MIA lately. DH & I had an Ectopic pregnancy end of august/mid september and after all the health issues being behind us, we'd been hit pretty hard by the lost of our LO. But now we're doing way better and we'll be TTC again this month. Hopefully it will work first cycle again and the little bean will stick at the right place this time.

Otherwise, pretty big week for me. I'm doing a thesis presentation on Thursday which is actually time consuming. I would also like to finish the wedding album for our parents. It's going pretty well but it's so long. Especially loading all the pictures.

Anyway, I have a lot of catch up to do on what have been happening in your life lately. I promise I'll be there more often as of right now :).

xx

Tressy - So happening if we win!!! I need to ask you a question about crocheting.  I started back up again and I'm right handed.  My wrist bone seems to have gotten sore from doing crochet and it seems to have bruised the bone right above it (not 100% sure yet).  Do you use gloves or anything when you crochet?

Ashley - The pictures are gorgeous!!!

Elise - Morning shift is awesome!!!  Eric had the morning shift and I would get up with him and work starting at 5 a.m. and it was the best schedule.  I got done at 2 and had the rest of the afternoon/evening to get errands done.  I did go back to work in the evening, as my doctors dictate all day.  I hope Trent is feeling better!!!

Pascale - I am so sorry to hear about your loss!!!!  (((hugs))) We are glad to have you back on the boards!!! Good luck on your thesis!!! You will do great! Can't wait to see what you select for the wedding album!!!  : )

Rania - Hey sweetie!!! I'm so sorry that you are feeling down.  You just haven't found your passion yet and that is okay!  Could you maybe volunteer using your legal skills? Congrats on your SIL's party and a second congrats on your friend getting engaged.  I'm sure they will both be needing your help planning their weddings too.  : )

@Pascale - I've missed you so much and was thinking of you last week. So sorry about the etopic pregnancy but have my fingers and toes crossed to hear happy news on a new bundle of joy! Good luck on your thesis presentation!

@Rania - As Becca said, I too am sorry you are down. You are too darn gorgeous to be down! And please don't feel like you failed career wise. Most people end up changing careers mid life because lets face it, when we are young, most of us don't really know what we want to do, do things for our parents, or what we thought we wanted to do is boring or stressful! You are not a failure, you just have to find your passion for what you truly love! And who knows? It may be in the legal field, but in a different aspect. I got my fingers crossed for you to have a bundle of joy and how wonderful all the weddings!!!

@Becca - No I don't use any gloves and what is amazing is I have NEVER had any problems with my wrist with crocheting and I also type as well! Do you do anything else besides crochet that may have caused the bruising? I also think too it depends on how you hold your needle. Everyone holds their needle differently and that may be the cause as well. I would suggest you use a glove and see how that works for you. Wouldn't want you to stop something you love! How often do you crochet?

Hey ladies!!

Dh and I are putting the finishing touches on our dining room redecoration/painting. Hopefully I can share pics this weekend!!

Monday, Dh was in a car accident--he is TOTALLY fine. But his car isn't. He took yesterday off work to sort everything out. The other guys' insurance just got back to him today and work will start on the car Monday, but he is picking up a rental tonight. Hopefully, his car work won't take too long!

@Rania-I feel the same as you about quitting your job! I left mine in September 2011, it wasn't worth the stress, depression (weight gain from stress and depression..). It has been a huge adjustment and I am only just now feeling it. I quit in the thick of planning our wedding, then had my sisters, then started working on the house. It can be a bit lonely because all of my friends work during the day.

Tressy - I do transcribing every day about 2000 lines of text besides being here on PW and my other typing.  I have been crocheting about 5 days a week for the past couple of months.  I think I bruised the bone from the renovation, because it's feeling better each day.  : )

Oh my gosh Jess, I'm glad he is okay, but what a pain.  FX that the car will be fixed soon.  Can't wait to see the pics of your dining room!!! : )

Hi ladies! I'm just checking in and saying hi! I'll poke my head back in later tonight :)

Things have been busy like always. We're farther along with the house; I had off from work for a straight week due to Hurricane Sandy, so that gave me a lot of time to unpack, organize, etc. Unfortunately it's been really hard to find the time and energy to keep at it now that we're both back to teaching. My parents are coming over this weekend to help us finish painting the foyer and hallways, and then I want to start setting up my craft room! Considering I so nicely let DH take over the entire 1000 sq.ft. basement, I've decided to turn one of the spare bedrooms into my own little studio space :)

Work has been going well, and my grad class is still really interesting (even if it is a lot to keep up with!) Next week should be a little crazy though. I have a major paper due, plus it's Thanksgiving of course, which means two family dinners that last all day. We're also going Black Friday shopping to get some things for the house, then that night it's the rehearsal for DH's friend's wedding, which is the next day. DH is the best man, and there is a long time and distance between the ceremony and reception, so we've volunteered our house as a place for guests to hang in between. I really hope there aren't still boxes all over when people show up!

LOL - yep, I used to do more than 2500 per day until they shipped our work overseas.  I use a ton of shortcuts though, and that helps.  : )
