Welcome Baby Lewis! (Long!)

Hey Ladies!

Sorry it's taken me so long to post!  DH and I have had a very long last few days!

It all started on Friday when I had my doctor's appointment in the morning and they decided to admit me Friday afternoon to start a medicine called Cervatol (sp?) which was to help get my cervix ready to be induced.  So I hurried up at work and got everything together to leave and DH went back to work to get done what he needed to get done.  We got to the hospital at 4:30 on Friday (4/19) and I was admitted.  Well when the midwife came in to check me to give me the medicine, I apparently had already started have contractions from them stripping my membranes on Wednesday and was near 2 cms so they decided against the meds because too much of that stimulation can cause distress on the baby.  So I was at the hospital for basically no reason on Friday night.

Saturday morning they checked me to see how far dilated I was and I was still only around 2 cms and my doctor didnt want to induce me till I was farther along so I got hooked up to pitocin, hoping it would move me along.  Well after being on pitocin from 8am till 5pm, not a damn thing happened.  I barely hit 3 cms that day.  So it was decided that on Sunday morning they would finally induce me no matter what.  So the nurses gave me a sleep aid so I could relax and sleep and prepare for Sunday.

Sunday morning I was up at 6, showered and fed by 7:30 and the midwife came at 8:00 to induce me and start the pitocin.  Well apparently my cervix decided to like half hide itself and she couldnt reach to induce me.  So the pitocin was started and I waited for my doctor to come to break my water.  He got to my room about 9:00 and I was officially induced at 9:25.  They started me off slowly on the pitocin again but then started uping the strength every 30 mins to get me into active labor.  My contractions started getting more intense, and I can't remember the time but I think it was about 2:00 I was given (I can't remember the name of the drug) to help me relax, it's not a pain med so you can still feel your contractions but you can atleast sleep in between them.  DH said it was the weirdest thing becuase I'd be completely out of it and then all of the sudden grab his arm and start squeezing.  When I finally hit 7 cms, I decided on the epidural.  I couldn't take the pain anymore and figured all this work was so that I could use that option so I did.  BEST THING EVER.  I could barely breathe through the last round of contractions and after I got my epidural I couldnt even tell I was having them anymore it was amazing. My cervix took for forever to fully dilate. It was around 10:40 Sunday night when I finally started pushing. After an hour and 10 mins, which honestly didnt feel like I was pushing for that long, and them having to turn off my epidural because it worked so well I couldn't feel contractions to know when to push, our LO was born.

Welcome to the world Mr. Blake Scott Lewis!

Haha I just love this picture because he looks like a little old man.

I'd have to say over all though we had a wonderful experience with his arrival.  The nursing staff that we had was AMAZING.  The one nurse who was my day nurse Saturday and Sunday stayed 5 hours past her shift to be with me when I delivered.  The epidural was no where near the pain everyone makes it out to seem.  I think getting novacaine at the dentist office is much worse.  That was a tiny poke and then it was done.  I DIDNT TEAR!  I have 4 little internal stitches that the midwife termed "road rash" haha.  DH did an amazing job and was the best coach around.  The only down fall was my day nurse on Monday and Tuesday, the last 2 days I was at the hospital.  She didnt help me with anything and we're currently having some breast feeding issues with the B-Man but we're getting it figured out.  It's so hard to not feel like a let down when you can't get something figured out but DH lets me cry (holy shit you will not believe your hormones) and just hugs me and tells me it's all ok.

OMG! Congrats, Blake is so flippin' cute and I LOVE his onesie (DH is a welder too! lol)!

I really enjoyed reading your birth story, it sounds like you had a great experience. Hurray on having a successful epidural and double hurray on not tearing!! That is my biggest fear! :|

I must say based on your belly shape and 'symptoms', I thought you were going to have a girl lol but Im so happy you and your DH got your wonderful son first, just like you wanted :)

Good job on your hubby's part for supporting you during this frustrating time with the BF issues. I'm sure with persistence he will latch on just fine. Hopefully some of the mommy's on the board can give you some tips.

Enjoy your new bundle of joy & God bless!

Oh my word! Mr. Blake is absolutely adorable and I love his name!! He does have that "old man/soul" face going on. Thank you for sharing your story, and I'm glad you didn't tear. That's a fear of mine as well.

Enjoy your lil man, I honestly thought you were carrying a boy based on your belly but I was keeping it to myself. ;)

Congrats!

Congrats mama!  He's absolutely beautiful.  And thanks for sharing your story, I'm so glad you had such a good experience (mostly) with delivery and everything went well.  Don't stress on the breast feeding - I hear it takes a lot of practice from both sides!  You'll get it.  Good luck and enjoy :)
