What are you doing with. . .

What are you doing with the things you made and bought for the reception that no one takes or were just a prop?

My sis in law had 50 left over mini vases because people did not take home their favors. I finaly used them all over the last 8 years. Yes, that is how long it took to find another use and turned into a gift.

I sold a lot of stuff. Tea lights, LED votives, my veils, etc. Some of the stuff I left at the venue for them to use...other stuff probably got thrown away, but at that point, I didn't want to take it home. What would I have done with it!?

So I think I did an equal amount of using some stuff (as decor in my condo), selling items to other brides (made some $ back! hallelujah!) and probably tossed some stuff (like the foam chalkboards I made and flowers, etc) I still have a small small box of stuff that I'm not sure what to do with. I will save it to possibly use when I have more space :)

I will have to check Craigslist now and see if I can find anything useful.

I have only a little bit of leftover stuff.  Mostly the vases and candleholders.  The paper plates and cups will get used.  I will probably put the other stuff on here if anyone wants to take them.  What I was surprised with was that there were no champagne glasses leftover.  I had enough for 60 and we only had tables for 40.  I was busy with people asking me questions that I didn't get to see the whole clean-up even though we were there (and I hadn't planned that).  I also had these lovely silver snowflakes (yes, real silver, like pendants and not confetti) that were part of the table decorations and I didn't get any back!  I kind of wanted a few to decorate my china cabinet but they were all gone. :(

2 years later I still have bags and boxes full of stuff like votives, ribbon, photo frames, card stock etc. The centerpieces were all rented so I didn't have to worry about those!

I went through something similar but for a differrent event. I spent $75 on balloons for a Blue and Gold Ceremony and one lady took ALL of the center peices. I paid for them and I wanted my son to get at least a single balloon. People can be incredibly rude.

Blue and Gold is for Cubscouts

I told my MIL that I was buying Tea cups for this event and she was like that is great I get to add another to my collection. How do I tell her that the cups are not a keepsake for guests. The keepsakes for guests are the handmade tea bags and attached poem.

BTW since this is only a VOW Renewal No one is bringing gifts therefore I am really not required to provide something other than a small token to say thankyou for helping us celebrate the day.

The things I don't mind people taking will be the balloons, snowflakes, and their tea-bag. The center pieces are antique collectibles that I am giving to my daughter for her Hope Chest along with the Lace Linnen table clothes.

I really hope I don't have to tell people this. I find these sorts of things understood in basic manners, but so many lack decorum.

Since I have a big family, my mom boxed it up and put it in the attic -- for others to us!

I've been able to sell most of our wedding decors that took up the most space - specifically, our large birdcage centrepieces and votive candle holders!  It's been a bit tricky, but so far it's been okay seeling our stuff!  Of course, I kept some as keepsakes, but most of it I plan on selling.  :)

We gave our wedding planner a lot of our leftover decor. I didn't want to ship it home, and I know that she will be able to let other brides borrow it! We kept a lot of stuff though, because we had a reception at home a few months after the wedding. I donated a few things to the venue to keep for their stock, and the other things have helped me decorate my house!

Ha! I still have a wicker basket in the office closet filled with favors...I'm thinking of throwing away the recipe cards and hanging all the little heart cookie cutters on a tree.

I purchased satin tablecloths from ebay. They were way cheaper to buy and own than to rent and I plan on using them for other functions. We are giving DH parents a 50th anniversary party in February and they are getting used for that. I also have a lot of cylinder vases we used for our centerpieces. They are boxed up for use for other functions. I had candles left and I burn them daily. Lol. I love candles!

Resale is probably the best option. There are tons of message boards (have you checked weddingbee or weddingwire? both have sections for this kind of thing) that help facilitate bride-to-bride transactions, ebay, craigslist, and definitely etsy if you DIYd!

Resale is a great way to get some of your investment back! PW also has a classified section:

I am hoping that I can sell some of it. My little sister is getting married after I am so maybe she will take some it.
