What's in a name?

In honor of the royals in labor, the Great Kate Wait, let's talk about our names!
Do they mean anything?
Was this the only name your parents considered?
If you were the other gender what would your parents name you?
Tell us about your babies names! (Fur counts too)

Well Zachia means intelligence in Arabic. I have another name which is a family name (three of us have it lol)

My mom told me if I was a boy my name would have been Xavier (:

My dad is a derivative of Zachariah

Habibi's name is biblical (Daniel)

My name is Ayla, which means The Oak Tree. I believe it is Hebrew. My dad found it in a book he was reading years ago, and loved it! The other option was Alisha, which they ended up saving for my little sister.

I'm pregnant right now (almost 17 weeks) so we are doing the whole name search thing. We haven't found anything we really love yet though.

Furbaby-wise, our dog is Tucker. It is just a name I really liked but probably wouldn't name my child that, so we thought we would use it for our dog.

My full name is KRISTINA MARIE ELIZABETH. My name means to be like Christ. My parents wanted a child name KRIS. Marie is a french version of one Grandmother's name Matilda and Elizabeth is from my other Grandmother Berthe and her mother Elizabeth.

If I was a boy my name would have been Kristopher Dale. I have no idea where Dale is about! lol

My kids:

KASSANDRA ELIZABETH. Kassandra is greek and means "helper of mankind". Elizabeth after all the women from both sides of the family.

JUSTIN JAMES. Justin means "to be just". James is after his father.

MCKAYLA SARAH MARIE. McKayla means "like Micheal" it was the only name we agreed on after my daughter was 5 weeks old. I call her McKie. Sarah means "princess" and Marie after me.

KHLOE KATHRYN. Khloe is greek and means "ever blooming". Kathryn after my Aunt Kathy who was also a young mother and a role model in my life.

Fur Babies:

Cooper, our golden beagle. After Alice Cooper!

Timothy or lop eared bunny. Named after the grass he eats. Lame huh?

My name means The Listener, which I thought sucked when I was a little girl and had two best friends named Sara, because that name means Princess! Now, however, I've found that my name is quite appropriate!

I was named after my grandpa Sam, who said he'd give 1000 dollars to the college fund of he first grandchild named after him...however he said I didn't count because my full ne is Samantha. Oh well - better than what my dad wanted to name me, he swears he wanted to name me after his two favorite cars, so I would have been called Jaguar Lamborgini :p

Believe me, from where I come, there is PLENTY in a name. There is a meaning in every african name, and usually children are named due to circumstances happening around at the time of their birth, or as a declaration into the future.

For example, my name is Ijeoma, which means safe journey, or goodluck. I was told that when I was born (Im the first) my dad said: oh a girl, that means we have started this journey well. So I was named Ijeoma. Then my last brother was born 3 months after my dad died in an auto accident, and he was named Chukwuma, meaning God knows. In this case, it could mean either God knows the reason, or God knows my needs, I dont know. I didnt ask for the full name though, we just stopped at Chukwuma.

For me, my first baby is going to be Ubamara (meaning abundance of grace) or Chukwuedukam (God has led me this far), especially if its a boy. This is because, Im looking over my life especially the past 5 years, and I see a lot of 'lucky breaks' that I cant explain how I got them.  Basically the names are a testimony to the goodness of God in my life.

Oh,most of our native names are unisex, so it works for a girl as well.

My name, Tressy, is a surname often used in France and Ireland and means "fierce" or "warlike". My mother named me Tressy after a doll that was a version of barbie. When you pulled her hair, long "tresses" of hair would grow! My mother had this doll as a child and thought I looked like a doll upon birth. Here is a picture of her. I would love to own this doll! It is a collector's item!

My name Tressy is photo 3481666-1

I have actually had 3 names in my life.

I’m adopted and when I was born, I was placed straight away into foster care and the family names me Suzie. Then my birth mom had to name me on my birth certificate and she named me Angela, when my Mum and dad adopted me they name me Lorna. I was only 1 month and 29 days old when my parents got me so there was no confusion lol

They chose Lorna because my Mum loved the name. No "real" significance behind it.

I have 2 boys

Aidan William (William for both their dad’s grandfather and my grandfathers)

Kieran John (John for both their dad’s dad and my dad)

Aidan was going to be either Sean (Gift of god) or Liam (short for William) but I fell in love with Aidan and it wasn’t very common (I thought lol imagine my surprise when every second person started naming there child that lol) and Kieran matched Aidan haha

I wanted them to have thier "own" names but have the family signifcance ain there. We were very lucky that our dads and grandads had the same name.
