i paid $1000 for just the DJ (ceremony audio, cocktail hr music, + 5 hr reception).  emceeing was done by a good friend for free, but i heard that can run around the $500 mark.

It all depends on who you are looking at. I have looked at several DJ...one was Casey Connor Celebrity Dj...she was good but I haven't gotten a price yet I am guessing for her $5000-$10000. I have also interviewed Tim Altbaum...good, and he wanted to start us out at $2,300.00 he and another DJ was refered to us, so we interviewed DJ Flo from KIK Entertainment, saw him perform also and he is about $1000,00. So right now we are going with Flo, I would love Connor,  but not for that price.

I would say they can go from $2,000 to $1,000. Do your homework, get references and speak to people that have had them play before. Each DJ was refered and we where only able to hear two of them play so that is why we went with Flo, we could come and see him live. Look at the locations where they perform also.

Make sure you get along with the DJ, ask about back up equipment in case something happens. I wanted all the wires covered so I made sure all of mine had skirts that may charge extra, ask about wireless michrophones, also about a wireless speaker for the back of the room, make sure they have a back up DJ that you are comfortable with. I don't know if your FI is techy, but mine was so he asked tons of questions about equipment and what program it played off of and also how things are going to be set up. So he really like Flo and he came recommened which didn't hurt.

In LA the avg cost is $2K.

I researched this and my DJ also told me this statistic. We paid $1K for 8hrs, ceremony & reception, his own equip., and he emceed it all too. He also gave a good timeline plan that we followed, but tweaked a little with our coordinator.

I think it's $1-$2k. We called a lot of DJs from San Diego to LA/OC and they are usually around that price range. We decided on using an ipod since we are having such a small wedding though

I think average is around $1,000-$1,500.  We're paying $1,200.00 for our DJ in San Diego.

My FI friend is a DJ here in L.A. Since he is invited to the wedding as a guest, we're having all our music preloaded onto the Macbook, and he's just going to monitor it as a wedding gift to us.

Well i found one that for 700, I can have unlimited all day and also have 10 uplights all for $700. He takes requests on the spot and ahead of time, mc's, and only plays clean music which was important to me. I dont think thats bad at all.
