What's your opinion on using FB for...

I've received two blast messages from FB friends now asking me for my address as they start planning their wedding. One was someone I know pretty well, the other was really someone I knew in high school but see on FB all the time. The messages are sent to a LOT of people, and then you have the annoyance of everyone who just replies to all and sends their address out to how many people instead of in a new private message.

So what is your opinion of using FB to obtain addresses? Should it strictly be used just to reach people you know, or to get everyone's address and then decide who to actually invite later? (I'm thinking that is what one of those people did, because I don't know her that well, but I gave her my address after she asked twice, but I never got an invite!)

If she wants your address she should ask your privately OR you should PM her your address or better yet get her e-mail to give her your address

Never post publicly!

I think that a mass message like that is annoying and not appreciative of privacy. I needed a few addresses of people I was definitely inviting and some were just easier to contact through Facebook. I called or texted those I could. IF I used FB, than I sent a private message to only that person.

I definitely think they are annoying!! I hate those group messages, especially because of all of the notifications! I did the same as Nicole, if I had to get an address, I did a private message.

I have received a few of those mass messages, and I just remove myself.  If I did need an address from a guest, I would contact them privately.

I would contact a guest privately.  I've received a few facebook group messages for other things and usually remove myself.  I would definitely not post my address publicly.

A private message is best; I don't see any issue with using Facebook as a tool to get addresses, but a person has to be respectful of the privacy of others.

Definately better to be private. Out of respect and safety, you just never know where your information will end up on facebook these days.

I'm with Nikki on this one - FB would be my last resort for getting addresses and definitely not through a mass email message.  Aside from that being a security issue for making your address a public thing, I think it's a touch impersonal to do an email blast for a wedding, which is very much a personal thing.

I did it in stages. I texted/called people on the list. then, if they didn't respond, I sent a message on FB. Most of my friends are more likely to respond on facebook, actually.

I did the same as aggiebride. I think its ok to private message people via facebook but not a mass post, if youve tried other avenues. I called, emailed, text, sent messages through other people, then I sent a facebook message and some people did respond right away through facebook giving reasons of they dont check email, phone has been acting weird etc.
