What to ask the photographer?

So I am looking into photographers and I found a few that are in my area that are within our price range alloted for this.  What are some things I should ask her? Any questions, even if it is the tiniest detail I want to know what I should ask.  I am lost on this area, haha!

                                                             Thanks, Jaimie

- If you recieve a dvd of all the images from the day or only the images he/she touched up?
- How many photos they touch up themself, or do they send the images out to have touched up. My friends photag touched up 100 images and sent the rest out to have done by a company.
- If the price includes a second photographer (helper) for the day.
- How many hours, if you go over how much is it per hour after.

If I think of any more I'll let you know...

- You want to make sure it comes with a high res CD of your images (& ask how big you can blow them up to!)

- Who is/ how many assistant photographers

- Time frame & over time charges

- Does it come with Albums? Engagement sections? Photos? etc

- Make sure their not all one style, you don't want all your pics journalistic, sepia, etc! (Unless you really like that style :) )

- Have they shot at that location before?

- HMM :)

If they have set packages, ask if they are willing to deviate from their packages to fit within your budget and customize a package for you. Example: if you don't want their album and want to make your own, will they bring the price down? etc. Same can go for prints. If you get a DVD of all the images, you can do the printing yourself or through a website like Shutterfly for significantly cheaper.

I think it's best to go to the meeting with an idea of what you want already. Don't feel pressured to stick with their "package." They make a lot of their money on those extras.

Just stuff to think about.

Good luck!

http://www.pashweddings.com/library/free-wedding-planner.php

I found this wonderful wedding planner that you can download to your computer and if you're like me, you can print it off and use it like a workbook. It is pretty long (89 pages) BUT it is VERY in depth.

It has:

Vendor Contact List
Ceremony Program Worksheet
Wedding Budget Worksheet
Who Pays For What at Weddings
Wedding Scheduler
Order of Events at the Reception Worksheet
Guest List and Table Assignments Worksheets
Questions to Ask a Disc Jockey
Questions to Ask a Florist
Questions to Ask a Caterer
Catering Worksheet
Questions to Ask a Reception Location
Questions to Ask a Photographer
Photographic Poses for Your Wedding Day Checklist
Questions to Ask a Videographer
How to Choose a Limousine Company
Questions to Ask a Wedding Coordinator
Bridal Emergency Kit Checklist
Responsibility Cards
Bridal Journal Pages
How To choose a Honeymoon Provider
Honeymoon Packing List
Pre-Marital Questionnaire

I know that's a lot but it is completely free from http://www.pashweddings.com/library/free-wedding-planner.php

You can also check out each topic individually

Hi Blushing.  This is a little off topic but if you are in the Phoenix area there is a photographer's blog I love to peak at every once in awhile named Lynn Dao Photography. Her stuff is really nice and I noticed her latest blog post has a layout of a gorgeous wedding album of one of her brides. Her prices seem decent as well.

The one thing I learned is to meet them in person first before you decide on anything and gather a sense of who they are. I really wanted a high end photographer but could only afford the assistant. Well when I went to go meet the assistant at the fancy pants studio the guy didn't even show up for the appointment!!! Flakey!

Also good questions are:
-If they shot at your location before then ask if you can see sample photos?
-What is the turnaround time with the photos (if you need your e-pics for your stds, your w-pics for your thank you cards)
-Is the amount they charge the flat and full rate? Or are they hidden fees (travel fee, food, etc.) or tax?
-How are they dressed on your wedding day? (it might matter!!)
-As mentioned, digital negatives (usually on a disc or DVD) are included in the package??

That's all i can think of right now...

ditto the all the above - but in my opinion - a good photographer will have answered all your questions you have BEFORE you even ask them....(I had 15 written down and mine hit everysingle one!)

make sure to verify WHEN you will get the images on disc....some photogs try to hold out for a longer time so you'll buy prints/albums from them if they don't come with your package....
