What to do w/ extra space?

OK so we are having our reception in a room that has a long shape.  Because the capacity is 350, and we will probably have around 200... there will be extra space.  Any ideas for fun stuff we can do with the extra space?   It's on one end of the room- and I feel like people will just stay away from that area if there is nothing there.  I want to use up every part of the room.  Suggestions?

I thought about a photo booth... but those are $$$.

Thanks!!!

look into furniture rentals and set up a lounge area with sofas and tables?  that might be as expensive as a photo booth but I'm not sure....

I agree, definitely look into renting furniture and making a little lounge area. I love that look!

  1. What about a candy bar?

  2. How about a scrapbook table. You can get really creative with this.---- 1) Buy a scrapbook 2)hire an additional employee from your venue to supervise the table 3) Go to Michaels and go crazy with stickers/stamps/letters/material ect. 4) put your guests to the creative test. Who knows, this might be a hit. And not to mention a priceless memento of your day...(hummm, I think I might do this. hahaha)

About the Photo Booths.... I'm not sure of your price range but am a huge advocate of em. IE: I'm doing the Photo booth thing. For 2 booths, photo booth attendant, photo booth scrapbook, unlimited pics and personalized monogram it will cost me 2K. Maybe you can cut costs by only renting 1 booth, no scrapbook and not having an attendant present. Who knows, it might fit in your price range. Check it out.

Hope this helps :)

lounge!

Or instead of a pricey photobooth you could set up some props and a curtain for a poloroid photobooth - for inspiration check out Martha Stewart's Today Show wedding from a few mos ago or this one:

Awhile back, I think someone made the verrry cute suggestion of renting a couch and setting up a video camera to go a video guestbook a la "When Harry Met Sally."  Love the idea of a lounge too!

Yah, lounges are very popular right now!

Our room is huge too- fits 300 I believe, but we only have 100...  But it will be fine the way we set up the floorplan.  T-shaped buffet, photobooth, dance floor, stationary slide show screen, cake table in other corner, large kings table for bridal party- so it worked out fine.  I wouldn't worry too much about it- b/c a lot of those large rooms are better with less people- rather then cramming for 300, you know?

Other then that you can have something there- like cigar rollers, dessert station, etc...

- HMM :)

Photobooths and lounges are awesome!

I think if you're on a budget just lighting alone will fill up the room.  You'll be amazed what lighting can do!

We were in a room that had 250 capacity but we only had 100 guests and I was worried as well.  We had a photobooth set up and lighting and that was it.  The DJ takes up space in the corner so does the cake.  It's nice for your guests to have room to move around.  You'll be fine!
