Whats the best place in cali to live?

Trying to convince FI to move out of colorado for a year. I'm looking at Orange County. Seems pretty reasonably priced...

Any opinions?

No we'd have to find new jobs or transfer. I just want a change I want to get out of colorado. Be able to drive to the beach, have a little fun before we settle down and start having kids

I found some really great looking two bed two bath condos in OC that are only 629 a month. And allow dogs! Which is a must. We wouldn't leave our babies  behind

SAN FRANCISCO.

BERKELEY.

SAN DIEGO.

SANTA MONICA.

If you are only going to stay in California for a year or two, I highly recommend finding a place in a city rather than the suberbs. Enjoy the young urban life while you can, and then when you have kids, you can move to the berbs. =)

I heart San Francisco/Berkeley personally. But..then...again, I am biased!

2 bed 2 bath for 629 in OC? i dont think so!!!

OC is expensive and Fresno is like 5-6 hours away from the OC headed north and much much cheaper but pretty far from the beach. its cow town up there and surrounded by a lot of farms so i think it'll remind you a lot of colorado actually.

I personally love San Diego, but I admit it's a little on the pricey side.  But it's coastal, has lots of great restaurants, public transportation (trolley system), you can't beat the weather, it's gorgeous, casinos nearby (if you're into that), and so much more.  I think there are reasonably priced places in the surrounding area (but still in S.D. county), I think you should check it out.  If I ever move back, this is definitely where I'm going to live!

ditto wmf and jax

DO NOT be fooled by ads that say "OC" - b/c anyone who doesnt know the area auto thinks of the beach & nicey nicey when they hear "OC" - the truth is while there are nice areas, there are also crap ones - and for a decent place for you Jeff & furbabies, you're looking at  when it may be IN orange county = but like it's in the crap part of OC... for a decent area - youre lookin at at least 1500-2500 for a one/one dpending one what you consider "decent"

seeing that i "live" in both norcal and socal depending on which week - cali has pretty much anything and everything

what are you guys into??? i'm just going to say that for people who have never lived in LA, i'ts a huge culture shock!! be prepared (in a good way, sometimes surprising, but mostly good)

norcal:
san francisco/oakland/san jose/sacramento are the centers with outlying suburbs

socal: la/oc/san diego/ "ie" inland empire

cencal: fresno/bakersfield

central cali coastal: san luis obispo/pismo beach

i'd suggest visiting several times before making the plunge to live here; see if you like the cali culture - b/c even within cali - norcal is very different from cencal and socal

i love living here and have the best of both worlds since i split my time (altho my heart will always belong to socal***sigh***)

EDIT: fwiw in 1996 - when i lived 5 minutes from the beach in 1996 - i was paying $1K a month for a "pet friendly" building... did i mention that was in 1996???

Yeah...and $1400 is cheap for a 2 bedroom 2 bath in OC.

I grew up in Nor Cal and I am starting to miss it...I lived in Sacramento and it is nice because you are a short drive to the beach, tahoe, reno, san francisco....they are all within 2 hours.

I have lived in So Cal for three years now....first lived in Huntington Beach...which is a cute beach town and cheaper than most cities in OC. I had a 2 bedroom 2 bath for $1500/month.

Since then, I have moved to northern OC...and I have a one bedroom one bath for $1200...which is also cheap for the area.

I know you have dogs so it would be hard to find a place that you can move with your dogs and keep it affordable... Good luck if you do move!!!

Also....Fresno is cow town....not close to the beach....not sure if that is a place you would want to pick for California living!

OC is ridiculously expensive. We are looking at tiny studio apartments, and they are a minimum of $1100.  But you pay for what you get....5 minute drive to the beach, 1 hour drive to the mountains, beautiful weather...I think it's worth it.  And Orange County has a huge job market for the science field.

WHY would you want to leave COLORADO! I would choose CO over CA anyday. We lived in Laguna Beach, Westwood, and Beverly Hill.
