When did your pregnancy get uncomfortable?

I am 20 weeks (1/2 way, woo hoo!) and still wearing my heels. A lot of people are saying that it is just a matter of time before I am wearing flats & flipsflops only because I will be way too swollen & 'waddly'.

So, I am wondering when did you start getting really uncomfortable? As in, elavated feet, back rubs, flats only & that "I just feel so fat" feeling?

This is funny, Mar -- I was just thinking about this the other night. I felt fantastic until about 25-26 weeks -- and then things started (very slowly) changing. Now at almost 29 weeks, I'm uncomfortable a lot of the time. And I still have 2+ months to go!

I still wear heels if the occasion calls for it, but I definitely prefer my flats and flip flops now. Ditto for comfortable clothing, particularly on bottom. My back is KILLING me pretty much all the time, and my belly itself has heavy/uncomfortable/stretchy-feeling days. I'm short of breath a lot because of everything moving UP and pushing on my lungs/rib cage. And I finally had to hang up my running shoes last week -- my legs just couldn't take the added weight anymore. I haven't had any swelling yet, but I try to keep my feet elevated all day.

I had a dr's appointment a couple days ago and the midwife warned me that my joints might start loosening up soon, leading to the dreaded waddle. Lol!

I don't know what it is like for others, but the advice about the second trimester being the best as far as energy and feeling good was definitely true for me. Third trimester has been a little rougher :-)

I remember thinking that I would be fine if pregnancy was only 30 weeks long because I was getting somewhat uncomfortable at night around then. It wasn't until about 36 weeks that I was pretty miserable, though. I had felt relatively "cute" my whole pregnancy up until that point and then I just felt like humpty dumpty. I delivered at 38 weeks and I think my being uncomfortable was due to her shifting positions in preparation for delivery. She had dropped but must have been trying to stretch out as much as possible because her feet were so high in my lungs. My bump acted as a push-up bra! lol I loved being pregnant, though. From what I hear, I had it so easy compaired to what some other women go through.

Luckily I've never worn heels and worked at a job where I could wear pretty much anything except sweats -I'm lucky that my pregnancy was pretty easy -I had sporadic cramps in my stomach but other than that I felt great until about 35 weeks. Of course, it was warming up by that time and we were getting crazy humidity last June so that didn't help much. Debbie -my feet didn't swell at all until AFTER Megan was born, which I wasn't expecting at all!

I started to get a little uncomfortable around 24 weeks or so. Like certain clothes and sleeping positions just weren't working out anymore. But now at 31 weeks, I'm really starting to feel cramped in there and short of breath lol but it's not unbearable yet, which I'm sure will happen soon in that last month!

I seldom wear heels to begin with so I've only worn wedges once since our BFP and that was last week. I'm 24 weeks now, and still feeling really good, lots of energy and still loving being pregnant. Sure, I don't always sleep well, my sciatica acts up, and I get sore from sitting for too long but all in all I feel like it's been great majority of the time. I'm not uncomfortable yet but I'm sure it's coming. LOL

Thanks ladies! I feel like I need to mentally (and physically) prepare myself. I LOVE my heels & I will be a sad mama, the day I have to pack them away. I am determined to wear them as long as possible, but want to be realistic & comfortable. I am hoping that this summer isnt as hot as last summer was (here in CA is was so hot!) to where I would be TOO uncomfortable with the heat & swollen feet.

@shneffer - your feet got swollen after Megan was born? I wonder why????

BTW - @msdl, I cannot believe you are in your 3rd trimester!! I feel like it was yesterday when I read how you told your DH you were pregnant!

I'm 23w5d and these days I really feel unconfortable. But it's mainly because I caught a really bad cold that is killing me AND I'm so congested... I feel huge and the belly hurts cause I can't go to the toilet. This morning I took something my dr gave me to regulate the digestion. :-(

I dont' wear heels often, and now only rarely and I stopped wearing my regular pants weeks ago already, because I'm so bloated and I really poped. I didn't have swollen feet so far, but I guess this will change as soon as the weather gets warmer.

For now I only wish that my cold gets better and please I want to use the toilet... (this sounds so silly...)

@Mar: I can't believe it, either. I know everyone says it goes by so fast but holy moly! It's crazy!! Also, I hear you on being sad if/when you have to put your heels away. The day I realized I couldn't run anymore was surprisingly hard for me. But hopefully it is just temporary :-) Small sacrifice to make for my body and a healthy little one!

@Olivia: It is not silly at all. I don't have anything like your reasons, and I wish for the bathroom part of it on a daily basis. By far my worst symptom - terrible! :-( Sending you big hugs! Hope you feel better soon.

Haha, I have been wondering the same thing.  I am 36 weeks tomorrow, and I still feel like I could wear heels for a couple of hours (not all day, though).  I get uncomfortable sleeping at night at times, but other than that I still feel pretty good.  I think it depends on the person and your body.
