When Do We??

When did you and your hubby do your first dance? When did you cut the cake?

I am trying to figure out if we do our first dance as soon as we are introduced and come into the reception? Before dinner?

Do we eat dinner and then cut the cake? Or do it after our first dance so people can have cake for dessert after they eat their dinner?

We cut our cake after the main course... it was followed by our first dance and a 30 min dance set - after that we served desert.

Ultimately, it's up to you and whatever fits into your timeline/schedule.

Typically, guests come into the reception for a bit of a cocktail hour and then have the meal (if you are serving one, otherwise you can let the h'oerderves circulate for awhile) and after the meal the wedding party and whomever makes toasts. Then you can do what you want, some people do the cake cutting and the first dances right away, and some split that up a bit. Work with your DJ, they have the mic and are really good about working the crowd and keeping things moving.

That said - do make sure your DJ is good at this. The original DJ I hired subbed out at the last minute to some guy I hadn't ever met and maybe it was due to his confusion of getting handed the job last minute or maybe he just sucked, but he didn't announce the cake cutting, he just played the song so most people missed us cut the cake. And then he went immediately into the first dance so we had to run across the room from the cake to the dance  floor...it was kind of a mess.

We cut the cake right before we ate around (6:30ish - so while we were eating they can cut pieces and hand it out) then we did the first dance about around 8ish!

I agree it is up to you but I would think you would do cake after dinner but again it's entirely up to you.
