when to register

how early did most of you register? we're ten months out and people are already asking about our registry but we've not given a lot of thought to it yet.

Aussie....i was thinking the same thing wandering around Macy's today....we're probably going to do some of it either this month (meaning July) or early August...since we are having a shower in my hometown first week of September...

i think it mostly it depends on the shower dates....IMO....

my shower sadly won't be until like a week before the wedding and i have most of my family/bridal party in one place so i'll need to do it before then. i must admit that i'm getting a bit eager to do it as its the only 'shopping' i'll get to do for awhile. ;)

we're getting married in october and we registered in march.  crate and barrel was having their registry event so we did it.  we registered at macy's in april i think.  still have to do home depot.  i think as long at you have a set registry a couple months before any showers, you're fine!

I would register ASAP. We registered once we sent Save the Dates but if we were not in the military and we had an engagement party I would have done it then... I know as a guest I like not having to worry about what to get a couple! People started asking right away and we got a few gifts when we sent STD's. Even if you don't get stuff right away, it gives you enough time to clearly think through what you want in your new home together... like FI registering for footballs and frisbees and basketballs, just kidding!

my concern was stuff like bedding not being available, or clearanced or discontinued...i think initially we may just register for kitchen-type stuff....then add linens later....

We registered 'late' IMO- but it actually was fine b/c its really only needed to be done before all the parties start, you know? Once you register you can add or remove from home on the computer which is very helpful!

Yah, and they advise not to register for discounted or clearance items b/c they will be gone by the time ppl buy gifts for you...

One of my friends registered tooooo early, and she basically had to redo everything- she said it was a bummer.  So I just waited a little longer...

- HMM :)

I'm still trying to register but it's killing me! I don't need anything. We own our house and we've lived together for 2 1/2 years so we've bought or been given all that little stuff. People keep asking where we're registered... I want to tell them the ATM. (lol)

ditto SoonTB.....and our wedding is in CA, and we live in Dallas, so anything people bring to the wedding will have to be shipped back....but a friend suggested that we just return everything (Macy's and BB&B), get gift cards/credit, and "rebuy" stuff here.  But I'm not looking foward to spending a couple of days after the wedding returning stuff after the wedding...may have to leave that duty for the in-laws!! :)
