Who does that?

Please check out the facebook comment I recently received from a high school friend:

"just wanted to say hello and see how you were doing. when is the wedding going to be anyway? am i invited? i would hope i'd be in town for it if i was. ha ha."

I was shocked. I have seen her maybe twice in three years. If I had a wide open guest list, she'd probably make the cut. But yeesh, way to put me in an awkward situation.

ugh! one of my FI's friends sent him a text msg last night to say "hey how come xx & i are not invited to your wedding in the phils?"

1) our wedding is in august. we haven't even PICKED out invitations yet.
2) we already emailed the texter last week to ask for his address to send a save-the-date. FI texted him back, "dude we already asked for your address?"
3) we were going to invite the texter and had not included the xx friend.
4) now i am so annoyed i don't feel like inviting either of them.

I just don't get people. I was telling one of my bridesmaids about my FIs friend who was invited to another wedding and ended up not going because she couldn't bring a date. I went through explaining to my BM how our guest list was limited, but her BF would be invited etc. Then she asked me if her parents were on our list! I have been friends with her since high school, but have never really spent any time with her parents. When I said no, she then said but your MOH's parents are invited... Well, yeah, they are my aunt and uncle. I couldn't believe she even tried to compare.

Facebook is a terrible thing. Since joining the military with my FI, I've tried to be friendly with locals near the bases who add me to their facebooks. I'm not friends with them and they're def not coming to my wedding because they're hardly in my world of reality. It doesn't stop them from asking! Its like, "pardon me but who are you?"

After reading that I'm not the only one...I'm still in shock! Crazy, crazy people. Maybe they could come, if we charge admission--it is gonna be a happenin' party after all! :)

i actually got suckered into inviting someone that wasn't even originally on my B list haha. She's the sister of an old best friend from middle/high school. The best friend and I lost touch after high school because she did something totally inconsiderate to me - but her sister and i remained cool with each other (although we rarely talk and it's usually a few lines via online messenger). anyways, after she saw my engagement ring on myspace, she messaged me asking where my wedding was going to be (LA), etc... totally inquisitive about the wedding details. then follows by saying, "i'd love to check out LA sometime". she doesn't travel - at all - so it's like "HINT HINT!!". i felt like she was using my wedding as an excuse to check out LA and not really to see me - especially since we rarely communicate. but of course, i'm such a wimp about these things and asked for her mailing address haha. but whatever.we're paying the same price for catering and alcohol - no matter if 100 ppl show up or 150.

I think these people just don't know wedding etiquette, because quite honestly, until I was exposed to this site and my friends started getting married left and right, I would've fallen into those categories you mentioned. Not that I would invite myself to the wedding by asking, "when's the wedding?", but if I received an invitation, I used to think, "hmm, who can I bring as a date?" because if you know only a few of the guests, it sucks to be single at a wedding.

BUUUUUUT now I know that it costs the couple extra money if I bring someone, and if someone I barely know is getting married, I won't feel offended if I'm not invited because wedding costs are high. Hopefully no more wedding faux pas for me!

And it's good to hear what you guys say, that way I'll be prepared when it comes time for me (which is hopefully getting closer - we went ring shopping for the first time this past weekend!).

btw - I thought that facebook comment was pretty tacky.
