Why a renewal?

I get this question all the time and I am sure many of you have as well. Most people think that weddings are only for first time brides, or in my case "virginal" brides. I have even had some new brides call me names on other sites ~clears throat~ because I am doing a renewal. So why did you chose a vow renewal?

Well, DH and I actually eloped in 2002 at the County Courthouse. No one was there and we didn't tell anyone we were married until about 6 weeks later. After, we sort of regretted not having a "real wedding", so in 2005, we decided that we would like to have a vow renewal with all the bells and whistles.

It origially was supposed to be on our 5 yr wedding anniversary which would have been in August 2007, but 9 months prior, I had an accident and that cancelled that. We tried about 6 times more, but something always kept getting in the way.

We were finally 100% set on having it this month. I was so excited about finally having the wedding I had been planning for for so long. In June, the worst thing that could have happened did. It caused us to cancel yet again. Well last month, we sat down and decided we were sick of all the cancellations and postponements, so we decided to go ahead with the vow renewal with some major changes.

On Saturday August 28th, we FINALLY had our vow renewal. It wasn't the vow renewal I had spent so much time, effort and not to mention money planning, but it happened.

We WILL do this again. We both want to have the wedding of our dreams, so we have decided to have a second vow renewal in 2012 with all of the bells and whistles I had planned for. :0)

Don't you just love Do-Overs? lol Heck, Hedi Klum and Seal Renew their vows every year like clockwork! Nothing wrong with that. Renewing your vows refreshes and reaffirms the words of commitment and promises made to one another. Yes, having all the bells and whistles that were lacking the first go around can be redeemed, but the real reason most couples choose this is because they often want to commemorate an important milestone in their marriage or bring back a little romance. Our reason is a little bit of all of it. Our original wedding was a bit of a disaster. We always said we would have a big celebration during each of our marriage milestone (5, 10, 20, 25, etc). We also noticed that with two children and two demanding jobs, the romance we use to pride ourselves on, has faded a bit. Since we have been planning our Renewal, sparks are flying again and we are like two teens in love again (kids are a little grossed out by all the kiss stealing and bum grabbing though)! We may have to follow Hedi and Seal's lead and do this every year if this keeps up! lol

YAY!

Ok here is my story. When we got engaged it was Christmas eve, we just had our first child together and we lived in a BAD neighborhood in Baltimore (if you ever saw the show The Wire on HBO you know what I am talking about) So we needed to move. We did try to plan a wedding but then his sister was getting married and his family basically talked us out of stealing her thunder since she was a "pure bride" and she deserved a wedding because she waited...but I digress! Finally we decided its time for us to do something that makes US happy and started planning. The original date was May 8th 2010..HOWEVER this didn't work out financially :( So we set it for May 7th, 2011 and we promised come rain or shine we are having our wedding!

We were both fairly young when we first got married, no money etc.  We always wanted a real wedding, so now is the time for it.  We have been married for 37 years and we feel that if we have gone this far, we deserve a great day!!

My story is similar to everyones here! We planned to have it after 5 yrs but it's been put off for too long due to money and having a child, etc. This yr we decided to do for us! I don't care what people think...you should celebrate your marriage.

I totally agree. Most marriages dont last long enough to have a renewal so I honestly feel its a celebration of the success that you've had and the ever growing love that you share.
